Please give me resolutions that don't suck...
For supposedly being the "graphics" platform the resolutions of the Apple laptops have always been pathetically low. I was running 1920x1200 on my 15.4" laptop, and now I'm running 1280x768 on my 10.6". 1024x768 on a 12.1" doesn't cut it, and it REALLY doesn't cut it on a 14.1".
I just bought an Access Virus TI Desktop and the fact that you can use it as an audio and MIDI interface as well as a knob box with direct access with a VST plugin is making me seriously consider moving away from Linux after five years... I can't stand MacOS, but I can't stand dualbooting even more. -
Re:Already been done, an OSX virus
There are others such as
Did you read the link before pasting it directly in here from google? The software isn't a sound driver, it's Sound Diver, and is not a virus but part of their Virus product line.. http://www.access-music.de/support.php4 ... a sound driver virus. -
Re:It's 8 frickin' grand...IMHO, most of the people I know with small studios want Computer integration, good latecny, and for gods sake they want to get rid of MIDI and recording digital synths with expensive 120db SNR inputs
:)In the short term Access is doing a great job of working towards tha.
Long term, the companies need to standardize a synth *networking protocol* (they tried a few years ago with a standard called MLAN) that provides low or zero latency and digitial transmission of Note Data, Syth Channels back to a sequencer/console, and SYNTH CONFIGURATION DATA! Once a standard is in place, they can start integrating it into *big* recording consoles -- whose development tends to move at a glacial pace.

Re:Go Away Troll.
You're clearly baiting me, but yes, I actually am a professional music system developer.
In addition to this, I am responsible for founding a large community of musicians from around the world, and frequently deal with pro's and amateurs alike.
So, Mr. Karma Sucks, bully for you... -
Duh.

As a professional musical instrument maker ...
... and as a hobbyist musician I love articles like this.
When the general public get sick of all the pop and 'reality' stars made for them, they turn to the underground, and this is where you'll find people who truly allow new styles to flourish.
All this Hollywood stuff is for chumps. If you want real music, and real musicians, just look for the underground.
It's out there. -
Re:Analog is cool
Absolutes are unobtainable...
Which is why I'll respond to:
Any idiot can do digital electronics but it takes real skill and understanding to do anything analog.
... with the statement: Even better, is doing digital work that is indistinguishable from analog work, to the point that A/B comparisons produce 50/50 results.
As a new member of one of the leading Virtual Analog synthesizer development teams, I can tell you this:
These are very exciting times.
