Summary is in error
It's WAYNE Mansfield. "Robert" is his middle name. I was one of the people who lodged a complaint and appeared as a witness in the case. The ACMA press release on the matter is a pretty good resource. I have a blog entry on the subject which is short and to the point, and has useful links to other resources (like the ACMA press release).

The gavel falls
The original court decision was handed down last April; this is the punishment. Additionally, when the case went to court in 2005, the courts handed Clarity1 an an injunction against sending more spam. So it sounds like Mansfield first violated the law, then violated a court injunction.
I wonder if he can pay the fine in e-mail promotion services?

Re:You will always live a two-browser life
Nine times out of ten the site will still work with the non-MSIE browser, if you change the query string. I've installed squid on my (Linux) laptop just for that, and use Opera quick preferences to turn it on and off. http://web.acma.gov.au/numb/login.do is one such site. But I managed to get a CSV version of what I wanted anyway, and imported into my own database which makes it much easier to manipulate.
It's usually only strange Javascipt or security-killing ActiveX that cause real problems. -
Re:Hows does it define SPAM ?Anyone got a link to the *actual* legislation ?
Because the 2003 anti-spam code was so totally effective to reduce all spam, let's have another.

Re:Hows does it define SPAM ?Anyone got a link to the *actual* legislation ?
Here you go (pdf warning)
It's not legislation, but a code of practice (a sort of howto follow the legislation). from the linked pdf:means commercial electronic messages that:
I'll dig up the 2003 legislation, but you will be sorely dissapointed when I do, as our lying, Saddam-conspiring, refugee hating, spamming bastard of a prime minister is a spammer himself
(a) are unsolicited within the meaning of section 16
of the Act; or
(b) do not include accurate sender information as
required by section 17 of the Act; or
(c) do not contain a functional unsubscribe facility
as required by section 18 of the Act.' -
Unimpressed.
Colour me unimpressed - the Prime Minister of this country (John Howard) phone spammed the continent prior to the last election, then paid his smug looking son to spam the nation.
Anyway, back on topic, here's an article from a local paper - it contains a link to the actual code of practice (pdf warning) -
