Re:Interesting comparison
Actually, I'm using CrowdPAC instead of something like GoFundMe to comply with FEC rules. There's also ActBlue for similar purpose. These have been vetted by the FEC and ensure that contributors don't exceed FEC limits; they also all carry proper disclaimers.
So yes, I'm fully in compliance with all state and federal election rules. What was your question?

Burr is one of those too.
I've known Richard Burr since 1994. He was an appliance salesman who wanted to be in Congress. I was a campaign organizer for his opponent in that race. He has no understanding of tech issues which makes it all the more ridiculous that he is Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Burr is doing this because he is up for re-election this November. His opponent in the race is Deborah Ross, an intelligent and hard working former member of the NC House of Representatives and former State Director of the North Carolina ACLU. If you really want to fix the Burr problem, consider making a donation to the Deborah Ross for Senate Campaign. https://secure.actblue.com/con...

Here's a way to make him listen
The "14-year-old" crack is of course code for "the complainers don't count becase they don't donate money to anybody". IMHO, that's even more aggrevating.
So are you little angry about being insulted by this corporate puppet? Well, there is a way you can get back at him. Show your displeasure in a way he understand.
There's a Democrat trying to challenge Mike Rogers, by the name of Lance Enderle. I don't know too much about the guy, but he has apparently pledged to take no PAC money. So he may be a drooling pinhead, but if you donate he'll at least be your drooling pinhead, and not the RIAA's.

Cowardly, stupid Democrats.Almost every Republican supports this crap, and enough Dems do that their majority is useless. For example, in the House, the R's voted for this bill 188-1. The Dems 100-128. Yet you will notice almost all the comments from people against this bill blame the Dems (because, hey, they have the majority!). And the people who support the bill hate the Dems anyway. So they lose across the board politically... it helps their enemies and it's the wrong thing to do... so why are they doing it? Bribes from telcos? Blackmail from warrantless wiretaps (hey, why do you think so many GOP Congressmen are closeted homosexuals?).
Anyway, there is a non-partisan way to hit back at these bedwetters. A contribution here http://www.actblue.com/page/fisa will support campaigns against anybody who voted to approve this bill.

The fact he's in the Senate, not the House?
He hasn't had the opportunity to vote on it at all yet. We're just pissed that he's not stumping against it wholeheartedly.
He still has ample opportunity to make it right. A drop in donations to his campaign (with explanations from the droppers as to why) might yet convince him that doing the right thing is worth any political cost that might be involved. Or a jump in donations to this page, set up specifically to reward valor and punish cowardice on this very issue.
It might even redound to his benefit. I honestly believe it would. -
Time for Paul & Libertarians to join a coaliti
Paul and his minions can't do this on their own. You'll need to create a Libertarian / Liberal coalition to win this. IMO: Libertarians and Civil Rights activists have more in common than they have in opposition right now.

ActBlue appears to be attempting this type of Libertine/Liberal coalition. I've donated.

Re:IT'S NOT ILLEGAL
No surprise for me sadly - Steve Buyer is a pretty much useless piece of shit. He voted against protecting the detainee's from torture too.
For myself - I voted for Obama in the Indiana Primary, and I will vote Democratic in the general. But I had Obama set up for five bucks a week in my banks autopay system, and I'm switching that over to http://www.actblue.com/page/fisa now, and I've emailed the Obama campaign and told them exactly why.
I don't want these bastard showing up in thirty years and trying to do this again. They came close in the 70's, they're coming closer this time around, and frankly, if we get their asses out of the Whitehouse, I'm damned if I want them doing this again to my kids and grandkids in another 30 years.
I want these investigations to go forward dammit.

Re:Game over man, game over!Just remember who voted for this when elections come up. Absolutely! I already put money into the Strange Bedfellows coalition budget. We already have $250k to go after the people behind this. Please donate!
I think the first order of business is just to make sure the people who elect these buffoons know that they were sold out by their elected reps. Put personally, I hope there's enough left to help fund primary-election opponents for these authoritarian yutzes.

Re:I'm a fan
I need all the help I can get from the netroots across the United States. I don't have the DSCC tapping big national donors on my behalf and we are accepting contributions from all states via ActBlue, where my campaign total is currently third highest for all Senate candidates. I suppose some might argue I should only take money from Oregonians, but the reality is that campaigns take money and I'll be proud to stand up in the Senate for progressive folks from across the country. It is only through citizens from across the nation coming together to demand real change that we are going to change the direction of the U.S. Senate.
Thanks for your help! -
Re:Come onInterestingly though, the donation page currently states:
If I decide not to run, any remaining funds will be contributed to the Change Congress movement to help promote these principles.
However, I pulled up the google cache of that same page and there is no mention of what will happen to the funds if he decides not to run. That seems somewhat shady, and I personally think he should have decided whether or not to run before starting to take donations. -

Like they say: early money is like yeast. If you can kick down $20 right now, it allows him to solicit more donations (mail, phones, net connection) so your $20 in effect becomes like $2000. -
Re:Tax minimization
Are political donations tax exempt in the US?
No. The link specifically refers to ActBlue and its preferred candidates, but it's generally true that campaign and other political contributions are not tax deductible.Sean

Re:Democratic Attempt?
Struck a cord with the common man? Come on, Howard Dean was a joke, and it shows there is a leadership problem at the top of the Dem party.
Oh, yes, Howard Dean is a joke among the common man. That must be why thousands of individuals generated over $106,061.77 in Democratic contributions in just two days in order to endorse his leadership.
Nay-saying's a lot of fun, isn't it? -
Want to show the DNC that you support Dean
as the new Chairman?
Head to We've got Howard's Back and donate some money. Some folks are of the opinion that if enough money is donated right from the get-go, it will remind the Democratic National Committee to listen to the people and not the consultants all the time. -
Amateur hourYes, in theory, opening up the process further is a good thing. But it's a mistake to think that having everybody and their brother play campaign manager will mean "shift[ing] resources away from bad plans and bad planners and toward better ones." Most people aren't experts in political strategy, and a campaign is not like program code that can be tweaked indefinitely until you get it right. You're at least as likely to shift resources away from good planners and toward worse ones.
Consider the example of the "Kos Dozen." As the referenced article describes, Markos Moulitsas runs the Daily Kos political blog, and is probably the most successful blog fundraiser for democratic candidates, raising (according to his site) about $750K. Of that, $550K went to a list of 15 candidates he endorsed and targeted, the inaccurately named "Kos Dozen."
Moulitsas claimed that all these candidates could win, and bragged about helping some candidates that the Democratic Party bigwigs hadn't supported enough. For example, he raised a lot of money for Ginny Shrader, running for Congress in Pennsylvania's 8th District, and he said:
The DCCC [Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee] was furious, since they originally hoped to maneouver a 'better' candidate into the race, but they have since come around and have become enthusiastic supporters of Ginny's candidacy."
Maybe the DCCC was right after all, because in a Democratic district that Clinton, Gore and Kerry all won, Shrader lost by an 11-point margin. In fact, of the 15 candidates Moulitsas targeted for help, ALL of them were defeated. Despite his optimism about their chances, four were demolished by 3:2, 2:1 or even 5:2 margins, and five more (including Shrader) lost by 10-12 points. Only three races were even close.I don't know if there were more deserving candidates and races that Moulitsas could have directed the money to, but I suspect there were. It's great he could raise so much money from small donors (the average donation was about $100), but a lot of it may have been wasted because of poor targeting choices.
Morale of the story: Sometimes the party bigwigs really do know strategy better than the masses, and trying to "strategize by committee" through a blog is not necessarily a good way to help a campaign.
