    Air-Stream in South Australia have been doing this successfully for a long time and is one of the largest wireless community networks in the world.

    Air-Stream http://air-stream.org/ have been doing this for almost 15 years now.

    While not an ISP people can share their internet over the network using VPN.

    It's still as relevant today since the national broadband network isnt getting to everyone especially people in valleys who cant get a service and are looking to make their own links to someone who does have it.

    WACAN are also similar http://www.wacan.asn.au/

    Community networks are the way to go, take out the middle man ISPs and government snooping.

    The law will become outdated when people bend around it with things like this.
    Just like DRM this will only hurt consumers not the ones actually doing harm.

    HAMs also use digital technologies and packet radio, I'm sure if terrorists *ahem* people wanted they could use CB or some other frequencies and encryption to plot terror stuffs. This is about terrorism still right?

    Seriously bring the internet back to community at an even level and create wireless and wired networks yourself. Even Australia's data retention scam the government created recently does not affect this one bit.

    There are other groups running community wireless networks all around the world.
    Air-Stream.org is one in Adelaide Australia, but yay for Bostonians starting a new project.
