INNOVATION?At first sight it looks really fancy, the same "design" but with improvements... but I don't see REAL INNOVATION.
Windows Live Messenger
Its interesting that new name, they move from the MSN idea to this Windows Live but it will be good if they include REAL live chat. A long time ago when everybody has ICQ you can see char by char what is typing the other person. (More than one friend ask me if there is a way yo do that).
Soon: talk to your Yahoo! friends, too
Is an interesting move, it's not surprising... the alliance against Google is here. (now they need to figured out the best way to include PayPal on this) Maybe include paypal and passport and a UNIFIED IM are the next steps.
Sharing Folders
I'm still waiting for All Peers because the easy-to-share with friends all over the net is really good. Yes of course, there is a LOT of ways to do this, but for the average users it isn't a "easy ToDo thing"
BTW its the right time to find some vulns on this "Easy Share", with Ms behind there must be an "easy ToFind Vuln". -
Re:Crap.
I would like to take the opportunity provided by this nitpicking thread to request that the powers-that-be here at Slashdot kindly provide us with collapsible threads. That way, next time I see a preposition joke (and a good one too, GP) attacked by the grammar impaired, I can safely collapse the thread and relax, knowing I won't miss anything of any substance whatsoever.
You can always get some good greasmonkey scripts to fix slashdot's shortcomings...
There are also many other useful scripts available.
And yes, I agree that Slashdot should make quite a few usability fixes on the site, especially collapsable comments. -
Re:A browser with native BitTorrent
allpeers is an extension that is coming out that, amongst the many things it will do is torrents.
-
Re:"Quick Tab"
Not an extension, more than likely a Greasemonkey script for Slashdot, i'd bet on Slashdot: Live Comment Tree: Lets you expand and collapse entire threads in an article's comments.
-
Re:Nofollow that fellow
Yes, there most definitely is and it is wonderful. So, if you are using the Greasemonkey Firefox plugin, download Slashdot Live comment Tree and greatly improve you
/. browsing experience. --- I am not a monkey -
Comment from AllPeers CTOI can't resist commenting on this, even though I'm forgoing the very tempting opportunity to moderate posts on this thread (by coincidence Slashdot just gave me moderation status).
Yes, it's a bit silly to speculate about whether AllPeers will or won't be the killer app for Firefox when you can't even see it yet. That said, Michael is making an important point, and I'm afraid that a lot of people aren't grokking it because they attach too much baggage to the term "P2P".
We're not making a Kazaa clone. We're giving people the possibility to share files with their friends and family inside Firefox. This *could* be a killer app because it gives people a real motivation to switch their non-technical contacts (especially family) to Firefox so that they can share with them. In other words, we're adding network effects to Firefox.
Does this mean that AllPeers will be the killer app for Firefox? Who knows. But the idea itself isn't patently ridiculous. If you want to make your own judgement, please register for our beta and check it out when it's available. Also, read my blog if you want more technical nitty-gritty about what we're up to.

Sign-up for their beta test here
Go here and enter your email to be alerted when AllPeers goes live. I'm going to try it out, for sharing photos and home videos between friends/family, this sounds cool. Kinda like a
.Mac for everyone. -
Re:Advertising I bet...
By just advertising you mean vapourware? It is! Access the site via http://www.allpeers.com/index_f.htm

Re:avoid slashdot effect?
Speaking of the
/. effect, I can't get to the Allpeers link in the story but the Coral link is definitely working! The Coral FireFox extension rocks! -
great...
Now the slashdot live comment tree plugin for firefox/ greasemonkey doesn't work. Can we please go back to the crappy broken html?

Re:Oh My God
Too bad it borks the Live Comment Tree Script for Greasemonkey(http://www.allpeers.com/blog/?p=137)
. Seriously that is the best script ever... -
Re:Maybe adding a little JS ...
More exactly: http://www.allpeers.com/blog/?p=137 (Slashdot Livecomment Tree).
Hopefully will be updated when the new SlashCode arrives:) -
