"To me is seems that this project will only work if it is managed as a coherent whole, like BSD or Squeak, and that means being open source with a strong leader. And now that I've gotten completely off-topic of your question I'll end my post
:)"
A Coherent Interface has been available for quite some time. Unfortunately Good Enough won instead of it's nearest Competitor.

REAL hacking takes more than replacing a chip
There are a lot of "open source" fuel injection computers out there (ignition too). If your really interested in making more power and hacking, join on to one of these projects. Perhaps someday someone will make an aftermarket odd fire ignition computer that I can program. In the mean time, check out these projects

Re:Someone RAM Bill
It's certainly enough memory. The Mac started out with 64K, which is one sixteenth of what the Lisa started out with. Because the Mac's bit map is smaller than the Lisa's, we thought we could do something with that amount of memory. But we were pushing for 128K all the way, and about a year ago we switched to 128K. We figured out how to squeeze the applications down to that size.
Hmmm...the original Mac (my first home computer) started out with 128k. The original Lisa came with 1 Meg! Both had the Motorola MC68000 CPU. -
Mac first consumer mouse? Nope.
This is actually not quite correct. Mice first appeared in consumer form in the Lisa, which was the predecessor to the Macintosh.
Mice first widely appeared in consumer form on the original Macintosh... -
Xerox Alto, Lisa & Mac OS are THE interfacesDon't forget that as documented elsewhere and in other places these are mere copies of the original interfaces:.
Go ahead, use your ugly clones.
Once more time proving that Microsoft can not innovate, just copy.
