Rocks'n'Diamonds
Rocks'n'Diamonds is a great Boulderdash / Sokoban / Supaplex / Emerald Mine clone. Distributed under the GPL and packaged for most Linux distros. It's a great puzzle game for kids with nice graphics, SFX and brainteasers. Might be a bit too challenging for a 3-year-old, but great for 10+.

Re:Amiga Emulation
Yep, specifically for Emerald Mine IV
:)You can get more than your daily fix of Emerald Mine with Rocks'n'Diamonds, which is free and runs on all sorts of platforms. I think it can even play the original Emerald Mine levels.

Too old to rocks-n-diamonds, too young to Elite!
Adom is the best computer game written so far.
But a live GM is still better :)
As for other games, those that I like:
Heroes of Might and Magic 2
Supaplex (and its cousin Rocks-n-diamonds: http://www.artsoft.org/rocksndiamonds/)
Cilivization
Warcraft 2>&1
Doom 2
And a 50x30 kminesweeper with 1/4 of the field being mines (haven't won ever).
And no, I haven't played Elite. But was impressed to watch/hear. -
Re:Chromatron is eductional, fun, and addictive
reminds me of Mirror Magic. Highly addictive. I spent hours and hours on that game.

Scary MusicThis is one of the games that came on the Knoppix live Linux CD. My young boys loved the thing, but refuse to play it with the music playing - it's too scary that way. I foolishly installed it on my Linux box, and they kept kicking me off to play their games.
I was pleasantly suprised to find there was a Windows port, so I could finally wrestle my Linux box back from them, although they keep insisting on playing Frozen Bubble, but mostly Rocks and Diamonds.
One of the great things about Rogue (read: NetHack) was that it gave *nix a unified way of talking with various and diverse terminals.
It's not much, but it's a sig.

An excellent unix game package..
Although admitedly this isn't on the topic of cool sed hacks...
If you haven't heard of or tried it, [and like this sort of game], be sure to also look into
rocksndiamonds, a truly excellent game for X. It not only has all the classic sokoban levels, but it also does an excellent implementation of Boulderdash, and also Emerald Mine [which I have fond memories of wasting huge amounts of time with on my old Amiga when I was a kid]. Excellent graphics to boot. Plus it's GPL. I've always been suprised that redhat dosen't provide it as an rpm, considering some of the marginal games that they do ship.
