Re:why not just post-process?
Why is it that Linux geeks like yourself seem always to lack imagination, inspiration, and flair? And always so critical of lo-fi creativity! Hardly a nurturing environment for the budding artiste, I'd say.
Not only at "some point," sir, but at beginning, end, and everyplace in between: you are the pathetic hack. -

Two questions.
First, what does [apple]-shift-3 do? Apparently in Panther it takes a screenshot, but why is that cool enough to get tattooed on your neck?
And second, why on earth is this so hot? Mmmmf. -

Re:why not just post-process?
Don't bother. It's obvious your parent poster is an unexploratory, inhibited dweeb. Things which seem readily apparent to people like you and me are simply incomprehensible to those boring little men performing boring little tasks. Nothing we say or do can convey to them the creative philosophy of good taste. It's sad that we are forced therefore to abandon them to their miserable desperation, this quietly raging pain that may never find voice while trapped within these poorly articulated souls. But remember, my friend: they did this to themselves.

Re:What's worse?
Not only that, but we Mac users travel in packs. And we stay close. The friends and close associates of any given Mac user are very likely to be Mac users themselves. These conditions are ideal for spreading viruses and worms. Malicious computer software, too.

I guess I could see it happening.

Another possibility
Being artists, content creators, and visionary dilettantes themselves, Apple customers are more inclined to respect the copyright privileges of other such individuals.

The REAL reason it won't happen...
"Release the source of the server app and then we might believe you."
Trouble is, neurotic privacy freaks--like you--who twist their Fruit-of-the-Looms in knots over these kinds of trivial nothings--yes, you!--don't tend to be Apple customers to begin with. So you distrust anything you didn't compile yourself? Too bad for you. Move to a cabin in the backwoods of Montana and surrender iTunes to those among us actually capable of functioning in society. -

Mac users
If you don't already own a Mac, then it's a given that you aren't among the creative sorts of people who will best be able to make use of software like Aperture and Lightroom. Excluding Linux users, Windows users, and fratboys is, if anything, an asset to boast. In this case, I'd say Adobe is focusing its development resources on the appropriate demographic.

Mac-only for now
Adobe certainly knows how to cater to its target audience. Consider this: Among those of us most likely to use this software, a significant number would feel slighted if Adobe were to release it for Windows or Linux first. Just as importantly, we recognize that software designed first and foremost for Mac is likely to be of higher quality, with a more careful attention paid to elegance and beauty. Indeed, I for one look forward to integrating Adobe Lightroom into my photography workflow.
