I agree with you - until convincted, making this sort of information public should not be allowed. Apparently the judge who decided this issue also agrees.

The Dallas Police Department however, don't seem to hold the same view. They are posting names, pictures, and other information about people they have arrested (but not yet charged or convicted) of sex related crimes to their website (see the link above.)

You'll find an article about it here. The article is from last June, but so far as I know, the practice continues.

I'm normally opposed to hacking websites, but in this case, I think it would be funny if someone hacked the site to put pictures of the Dallas Mayor, City Council, Chief of Police, etc onto the site in place of the people they are attempting to humiliate without a trial.

If these were people who had been convicted, I may see things differently, but the cops can arrest anyone for anything, and this is essentially punishment prior to a trial. It goes against everything we are told about justice in the US.

Speaking of crazy patents...

Acacia claims numerous patents covering the use of streaming media, such as video files and audio/MP3s, including original content, and is currently targeting the adult industry with thousands of patent infringement legal notices and lawsuits.

Note this issue has nothing to do with copyrights whatsoever...this affects all use of any streaming media by anyone.

Acacia has chosen to target the adult industry first, since they are an easy legal target, but make no mistake, Acacia is targeting everyone who uses, or even merely links, to any streaming media content, including individuals.

Acacia isn't the only company on the prowl...if Acacia is sucessful, there's a whole swarm of other entities that have zillions of other questionable "business method" patents ready to pounce on both industry and individuals alike with their patent infringement claims and manditory licensing for widely used "open" computer formats that they didn't even develop!

Eddy Marin, a well known spammer with a history that includes convinctions for cocain dealing, money laundering, and who was involved with pornography, seems to be behind the spam.

In the meantime, his pet lawyer, Mark Felstein, ( check out the cute picture) is suing several people who fight against spam for blacklisting "anonymous members" of his newly created EmarketersAmerica organization, and several anti-spam sites all over are being under DoS attacks.

The spammers are winning because the good guys are playing fair and honest while the spammers have no morals are are making up their own rules.

And the porn industry knows about it...

I had a friend who owned a video store, and thanks to him I know that there are, in fact, pr0n industry trade mags. The big one is called "AVN" ("Adult Video News" I believe). They are the ones who also host the "pornies" or whatever they call their awards ceremonies. But it is a true trade magazine (ads for display cases and title library storage systems).
