Re:Boom boxes with Wi-Fi
Oh, and here is the first Wi-Fi enabled boom box. Community Media Platforms is working this area.

How about the Bass-Station?
While this boombox is pretty interesting, there is a way cooler version with 802.11b (allowing people in range to download from the boxes library of songs, upload a new song and manipulate the queue). Plus, it's built into a Lasonic TRC-931 (the 80's breakdancer's dream machine). I saw it on page 090 of the May 2004 Wired Magazine, you could read about it here, and see photos here.

Re:Already done?
www.bass-station.net with no display, no portability, no radio, missing knobs, and scotch tape covering holes in the front, and duct tape holding the insides in place. much cooler.

A couple of months ago, Linux Journal covered the Bass Station, a converted monster ghetto blaster that is used to stream audio and video to anyone within range of its WiFi antenna. The owners use it as a kind of a mobile Internet block party.
I found it inspiring. They used the Mini-ITX motherboards, and with the upcoming Nano-ITX boards, even smaller and more portable mobile access points can be constructed.

Better alternative: Hacked 80's BoomBoxFrom the Bass Station site :
The Bass-Station is a mobile, visually loud, and funky 1980s Boom Box. Imbedded within its shell is a modern computer and wireless networking components. By creating a locally accessible wireless network, people of an intimate community can use the Bass- Station as a hub through which they can freely and democratically exchange information. By actively observing the exchanges of a small community, you can learn things about that community that you couldn't by talking to any one of its members. The Bass-Station is also a shared stereo that makes its presence fun and entertaining.
It's the same functionality, but with a real design concept behind it
