Re:Energy efficiency
New LCDs, with overdrive, can burn-in: http://www.behardware.com/articles/615-1/lcds-wit
h -persistent-images.html I hope that my beloved Diamontron still has a long life ahead, I don't want no lag (LCD are 20 to 60ms late on a CRT, if you add a radio mouse you'll quickly be at +120ms lag which is very very noticable and make any PC feel slugish), ghosting (yurk, overdrive helps, but then it burns in... great), weak refresh rates (which should hopefully be improved next year with the 100mHZ LCD), greyish blacks, etc... -
Re:OS X Leopard and OpenGL
Ati and Nvidia's drivers are already multithreaded on windows but there is only a 10% improvement at best.
See http://www.behardware.com/news/7949/driver-ati-nvi dia-multithread.html for one benchmark.
Rendering frames to the screen is inherently serial so you can't make it much faster with more cores. -
Re:Yes.
A lot of games are TCP based... World of Warcraft for example.
Interesting then that they give World of Warcraft as the example in the 'Sneak Peek' performance statistics when compared to an onboard Marvell GigE chip known to have relatively high CPU usage. But then they also describe the piddly 10-20ms reduction in latency as 'stunning'. I don't know about others but that wouldn't make much of a dent in my 300ms ping times. -
Are you sure about performance?
An average PC nowadays holds enough power to run complex software programmed in an interpreted language (...)
Apparently, Intel does not agree with you:

If even a relatively simple GUI of driver control panel is considered unsuitable for "non-native" technology, then it is understandable why more complex desktop applications are still far away from being routinely developed in such languages.
In my personal experience, I'm yet to see "non-native" application that does not feel sluggish compared to a similar native application. -
Re:"The most interesting new product"?
Hi, it's me again. The same "troll." Because anyone who isn't a fanboy is a troll, obviously.
Yes, I did miss the part about the VGA, Composite, S-Video, and HDMI out. I only saw the connectors on the back. If there's an adapter, then I retract my complaint about lack of such.
And yes, you can most certainly do HD video without HDCP. (???)
Not really. True, there are no BluRay or HD-DVD drives even on the market yet, but could you add one when they're released in May? I doubt it. I'm not saying it makes the Mac Mini worthless, just not great as a media center, even for the price.
And only a "couple of shows" on an *80 GB* drive
80GB is tiny for PVR purposes, especially when you factor in that the same storage is used for the OS and any other software you want to install. PVR, in my opinion, is part of what makes a "media center PC" a media center PC. Roughly 50% of it, in fact.
no one's forcing you to buy a Mac mini
So I can only voice my opinion when someone's forcing me to buy things? I'll keep that in mind in the future. Thanks for straightening me out.
And as for your button complains, apparently you've never used, or even seen, Front Row.
I'm not going to argue about fewer buttons = less efficient input; that's a given. Think cell phones vs. keyboards. Unless FrontRow can read my mind, it's going to need more menus for the same functionality when compared to a more complete remote.

Screen advice for gamers!
If you play fast moving games, don't buy an LCD screen. They may tell you it's fast (Xms !!!1) but they will still show a streak when a bright character is moving in front of a dark background.
LCDs suck for living room video as well, there are LCD types that are fast enough for video (TN type) but which distort their colours when viewed from the side even by a little bit. Sucks for the people at the ends of the couch. The other type of LCD has nice viewing angles but isn't fast enough for action sequences.
The type of display that combines all the good features of LCD and CRT is SED
They'll be available at the start of 2007 and might be affordable at the end of that year. Hopefully the manufacturers aren't too greedy to make a profit.
Stay with a CRT until then, if you can. -
All you ever wanted to know about LCDs
You can learn from http://behardware.com/ I just recomend it to anyone, and *no*, I have no affiliation. Example of a great article is the "Mura effect "http://www.behardware.com/articles/589-1/panels-

Another review site...A great review of the VX924 can be found on this very nice site, which goes into a little more detail on the performance side (ie. colorimetry) can be found here:
