    Why would anyone want to play a game in Linux? I don't think that particular operating system is stable enough yet for mainstream applications such as games. Best to stick with Windows or Mac OS.

    The whole business of Apple staunchly 'protecting' their trademark designs (iMac, and now Aqua theming) is quite insane. Apple believes that people *have* to copy their design because it is the *best* out there.

    1) so what is people copy off of them? If everyone does, it doesn't make Apple generic; it makes them the leader and innovator of the pack, something which will be respected by the consumer eventually. (and will certainly be applauded by us slashdot types)

    2) they assume that their design is the *best* out there. I, for one, think that the Aqua interface is far too colorful and overdone. I'd rather not make my political statements by carrying a transparent computer and using a transparent UI - I prefer the simple, usable functionality of Be and photonGUI.

    R5 will have a 'free demo' version. The BeOS Website says the free downloadable version wont have all the features enabled. Or something like that. Probobly just enough to get people to check it out. (and like it)

    The author makes some good points, but (at least in Be's case) he needs forget about the journalists and address his concerns to the Marketing Flacks. See the Be, Inc. site at http://beos.com - it's littered with stuff like "The Software Platform for Broadband Digital Media", "High intensity platform for digital media" and "BeOS® The Media OS".

    Just putting a bit of the blame at the feet of those who deserve it...
