    I started a thread on MacNN about the fact that any cocoa application can read a new Macintosh's unique serial number. I even wrote a sample program that accesses and displays it.

    I thought that others might be as concerned as I was. Instead, someone confirmed that, yes-- the Mac's GUID is globally accessible, yes-- it's on the motherboard... but no need to worry because "As much as you feel that the serial number can be abused it won't. No vendor has shown any indication that they will use unique IDs in their programs and all we can do is hope that they won't."

    Uh yeah right. Except for Windows 98, RealNetworks, Word for Mac, etc.

    Why is that Intel's GUID problems were such a big deal and this barely gets a shrug?

    Gee, for a company that is trying so hard to protect their trademark, it's quite amazing this site has been able to stick around for the last two years. This site rips off Intel(TM)'s logo and everything.

    If you ask me, this sounds like a lawyer looking for a way to finance a new BMW and a Caribbean vacation.

    Even if it matches or exceeds Athlon in speed, the PSN in Intel chips gives Big Brother such a boost in tracing everyone that Intel deserves a good kick in the gut. I will never buy their NSA-inspired crap again. Even some PII's contained serial numbers and they never told the consumer. In response to consumer complaints they said "Tough shit" and released pathetic insecure software patches. Fuck Intel. They're overpriced anyway. www.bigbrotherinside.com

    Well, Intel (despite the 20 e-mails I send them a week - sometimes a day :-( ) launched their PSN, which just happens to allow companies to track your on-line movements. Now they are going in to the ISP business - so won't they have even more control over the PSN? I mean, they would be able to build up a secret dabase tracking all of their customers movements - even when they stoped using Intel for their ISP. I can see something nasty in that woodshed...... :-(

    Actually, They know the speed will be decreased by the ammount of traffic the PSN generates from companies tracking your internet follies...
