On Character Development In RPGs
Thanks to IGN RPGVault for their continuing series quizzing videogame creators about single-player RPG character development. Respondents include Chris Avellone of Black Isle/Obsidian, who rants on CRPG spell conventions: "Almost every spell system I have encountered in an RPG has done wonders for sucking all the mystery and enjoyment out of magic", and Star Wars:KOTOR producer Mike Gallo, who suggests: "I think that somewhere, at some time, a type of stat-less main player character development will make it into an RPG." -
Black Isle's Lionheart Gets Spanish Inquisition
Thanks to RPGDot for their Lionheart information page, which points to GamersWithJobs' first impressions of the PC RPG, which is developed by Reflexive, published by Interplay's well-known Black Isle RPG division, and has just shipped to stores. GamersWithJobs have positive impressions of this alternate-history title, which is set in 1588, when "...Europe is still reeling from the disjunction, a cataclysm that unleashed magic and demons on the world five centuries earlier during the Third Crusade, whereupon vengeful foes Richard the Lionheart and Saladin were forced to join forces to turn back the deluge of evil." The piece also points out that "...while the demo proved to be substantially more difficult than the final product, the mechanics of the game are faithfully represented in that demo and serve as fair warning for those attached to turn-based game styles." -

Fallout 3 In Development?
easychord writes "RPGCodex are reporting that J.E. Sawyer has sneakily or accidentally leaked Fallout 3 concept art onto the Interweb. After the disappointing non RPG spin-offs in the Fallout universe and the confusion around Black Isle's Lionheart having the working title of Fallout Fantasy, is Fallout 3 becoming a vaporware holy grail?" -
Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel Impressions
John Callaham writes "HomeLAN gives its brief but hands-on impressions of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, based on playing a build of the upcoming Interplay PS2/XBox console action game at last week's VUGames press event." There are also further impressions and screenshots of this title at Gamespot. While this new Fallout title has been vilified on Fallout fan sites for ignoring the more in-depth RPG leanings of its classic predecessors, those people who love the original PC series can at least now download the Fallout 2 editor from the Black Isle site.
