Use a different password for each site
Using a different password for each site is the ultimate in security; however, without a password manager of some sort, it becomes too difficult to manage such a large list of passwords. Thankfully, OSS password managers such as Revelation and Figaro Password Manager exist! Personally, I use revelation; however, both are excellent pieces of software!

Better Alternatives
Anonymizer had too many restrictions on which sites you could browse.
We've had better web proxy alternatives with fewer restrictions for years... BlastProxy and ProxyStorm are two web based anonymous proxies that I often use.
Other networks, such as Tor allow users, who are willing to install additional software components, browse anonymously. Although, nothing really beats the convienence of the web proxies! -
A Fast Anonymous Proxy that I use
Often, when browsing from work, you don't need 100% anonyminity. Its not like you are logging onto your bank accounts from work, but you often want to visit a site that you don't want your employer to know about. For this reason, I use two fast anonymous web proxies. The First offers quick anonymous browsing (good enough for work) without any additional software to install. The Second has a simpler/cleaner interface.

The ultimate browsing experience
I think firefox needs a tagline. Maybe Mozilla foundation can contact BMW and include a free firefox CD with every BMW sold. (ie. the Ultimate Driving Experience along with the Ultimate Browsing experience). Things like this will help firefox's penetration. People really need a reason to use firefox over IE, and right now I can think of two good reasons:
1) Firefox doesn't have the huge ActiveX security hole that IE has.
2) Firefox offers tabbed browsing (now that IE7 is out, this is no longer a Firefox advantage).
So the list of major advantages firefox has over IE is dwindling. I think integrating some form of anonymous browsing, either through a network such as Tor, or through an anonymous proxy service would give Firefox yet another advantage over IE... Maybe Firefox 3?

Great, get busted for having pirated software
Why not protect your computer in the first place and not have to worry about spyware and viruses. If you are on a Windows machine and you are browsing warez or other "not so legit" sites, you better protect yourself. You would be advised to use an Anonymous Proxy to browse such sites, as you really don't want your IP address floating around in their logs when they get busted, do you?
Furthermore, a proxy such as the above would protect you from malicious scripts.

If only they would just use a proxy / encryption..
Granted, the EFF is trying to protect our rights as citizens, and in my opinion they are doing a decent job as such; however, people please.. it is your responsibility to protect your own privacy, and if you are doing something that you do not want others to know about, please please use a Good Encryption system, a Good Anonymizing Proxy for browsing the web, and definately get a Good Web Browser. If people would follow these three little tips, it would make eavesdropping on your communications about 100 times more difficult.

I prefer SUSE, Fedora or Ubuntu
This will probably get modded down as flamebait, but honestly I prefer SUSE over Mandriva (Mandrake). I have tried Mandrake many times over the past few years, and even joined their "Mandrake Club" a few years back when they were on the brink of Bankruptcy to help them out; however, I have always felt that their Distro was never QA'ed as well as SUSE or Redhat for that matter. When you fire up the latest SUSE, you tell you have a professionally QA'ed product, as everything works out of the box. With Mandriva on the other hand, everything looks great on paper. They always have some of the latest packages, and include alot of the new technology; however, there are always a few things that dont work well with my system after I install it. In fact, on more than one occasion, I've even had trouble installing a new release of Mandriva.
Now I have nothing against Mandriva, and I like urmpi, but I think I may pass on this release, or try it out on a Virtual machine first before getting rid of my SUSE and Fedora boxes.... Now there's a thought..

Microsoft is behind this!
The DOJ and PTO have given their solid support to Microsoft's petition for certiorari in its battle over transnational patent infringement. This support makes grant of the petition highly likely.
Microsoft and other large corporatations have everything to gain from this should the Supreme Court decide in favor of this. They have amassed huge patent portfolios, and would be able to effectively halt the development and distribution of a majority of OSS software out there with foreign contributors. I hope I am not the only one that finds this very disturbing. ...
That statute allows a U.S. patentee to collect damages for foreign sales of a patented invention based on the export of one or more of its components from the U.S. Recently, the CAFC has expanded the common interpretation of the statute to include the export of software code (AT&T, Eolas) as well as to the export of elements used in a patented method (Union Carbide).
According to my interpretation of the article, and the graphic provided, software developed totally in a foreign country (say Germany), would still create liability if it were to infringe upon a US patent!

History Re-written
Niel Armstrong did have alot of critics who complained that he changed his story, or was trying to change what he had apparently said in order to make it sound better/different. This computer analysis should quiet his critics, but the unfortunate truth is most of the public will probably never hear about this analysis and life will go on...
There was an interview several years back where Mr. Armstrong said that he said the word *A* during his famous radio transmission from the moon. Someone could try Voice Stress Analysis on that interview to determine if he is lying or telling the truth, to verify the results of this analysis. =)

Realtime images? Competition for Google Earth
Too bad this won't give Google Earth much competition. Someday in the not so distant future, satellite imagery may become real-time via low cost weather balloons. Now imagine having access to realtime satellite imagery, how much would that be worth? Using this technology, it wouldn't be so hard to get real time (or close to real time) images from the weather balloon.

Similar to ssh exploit a few weeks back
This is similar to the SSH exploit reported here on Slashdot a few weeks back where data could be determined via statistical/timing analysis done on the packets sent during an SSH session.
It sounds like if these types of timing and statistical analysis attacks become common, a simple solution would be a firefox extension that would randomize the timing of the input from the mouse and the keyboard. I suspect that randomly delaying a keystroke or a mouse click anywhere between (0-100ms) would be enough to defeat this type of analysis as well as short enough as to not adversely affect the browsing experience.
Of course browsing browsing the web through a good anonymous web proxy will probably do alot more to hide your identity than any type of randomizing of your input strokes.. but then, utilizing both methods as well as encryption would make things all the harder for any attacker.

Wrapping your passport in Tinfoil?
There is the ever present theory that wrapping something in tinfoil will prevent RFID communications from working. Does anyone know if this is true or has been tested? If it works, just wrap your passports in tinfoil.

Legal Extortion
One can only hope that this case will prevent "Legal Extorion" from occuring in the future; but alas, that is just wishful thinking... IBM is a big rich company. If SCO were to come after a small fish like you or I, would we have the money to defend ourselves the way IBM did? I seriously doubt it. More than likely, had SCO sued me directly, I would have run out of financial resources trying to defend myself, and would have capitulated. SCO probably would have gotten summary judgement against me and precedents in case law would have been set. The sad thing is, had SCO has smarter lawyers, they wouldn't have tried to take on a big fish like IBM, but would have sued a very small company with few finanical resources to defend themselves. Once a precedent has been set, they could have laughed all the way to the bank. Believe it or not, the legal system is full of cases which many would consider "Legal Extortion" (ie. Pay up now, or face an expensive and lenghty lawsuit). One industry I can think of where many hungry lawyers prey upon is the California Real Estate market. Which brings me back to a headline I once saw on a magazine for lawyers in California. The headline read: "Mold is GOLD!", meaning that the common practice of bringing in an environmentalist to find 'mold' in a home and then turning around and suing the former homeowner for not disclosing the potentially hazardous condition that is causing the new occupants all sorts of numerous ailments, is worth big bucks to many california lawyers.
Here's hoping that this case will help the little guy... but I'm not gonna hold by breath!

Spyware ThursdaySo we now have Patch Tuesday, Exploit Wednesday, and now what? Spyware Thursday..?
The majority of exploits could be stopped if Windows users switched to Firefox. However, getting Joe User to switch from IE to firefox is difficult, especially when he percieves no problems with IE. The majority of exploits in the wild today hide themselves from the user, and turn their machine into a Zombie node without their knowledge. Because Joe User doesnt know anything is wrong with his computer, he keeps using his unpatched IE and helps spread the exploit even further.
