hashlimit
You can also use the hashlimit module for iptables. I find it works pretty well for allowing people in who need to access and block things like the ssh worm that was causing ssh to run out of resources.
You might check out the end of this presentation that I made 4 years ago.

I've been using hashlimit successfully for years in a web hosting environment.
I'd also recommend hiring someone who focuses their efforts on managing the servers and taking care of network security. This job is usually referred to as a system administrator or network administrator. DOH!

Things you should know.

n ge_Issues
A year ago, after most of Indiana went through its first timezone change in 40+ years, we found out that it presented a few problems in Linux, I tried to post a story to Slashdot about it to warn other people in the US that they would be dealing with this problem later when the rest of the US changes to the new DST. I tried several times to post it and they were all rejected.
Basically, you need to make sure that if you change your timezone data on your system that you restart everything, otherwise when the time does change, some programs continue to use the old timezone data and are an hour off. -
It is in Indiana Schools
Bloomington North High School is piloting about 120 linux machines in their school running NLD, Linspire and Edubuntu. 700 students are using them. The Bloomington Linux Users Group is helping them by providing support.

about the need for software developers to be mindful of younger people, as their social attitudes towards software are going to be much more influential in than any moral or financial consideration.
Perhaps some of the younger people need to become software developers. This is not meant to be a RTFM comment, just an observation that the OSS community might need to step up its PR with the younger generation. It was nice to see many high school age kids at the BLUG meeting last night, but I think we could do more to encourage them. -
How about a nice game on Linux instead

Re:Why?
According to urban legend a philosphy professor once asked a single question on an exam "Prove that this chair in front of you doesn't exist." And the person who got an A simply wrote "What chair?" on their paper and handed it in.
So likewise, the question here is "Why does windows still suck?" and the person with the first and most seen comment simply states "Because I'm a gamer", which to me implied that windows would not be needed if people like him didn't need to play games. So windows is still needed and windows still sucks. Otherwise, we wouldn't use it.
I just got paid $50 to reinstall windows for some lady who had a machine totally infected with spyware and viruses. I was thinking of selling her on the idea of using Linux, but the major hold up there is that her son was a major game player. And that was the only holdup for me. So there you go. If gaming was better under Linux (and it is getting better all the time), we wouldn't need windows so much.
Interestingly enough, the topic that I'm presenting on at the next Bloomington Linux Users Group meeting next Tuesday is "Gaming under Linux".
