Re:It's been done before
... size of that huge thumb ...It's a photo of a (hand-held) photograph.
The back-seat from 'Herbie goes to Monte Carlo' (1963).

Re:if by "plant"
I'm out of mod points, but that was very informative, thanks. Some of it I knew, e.g. multiple stages, but your last sentence says it all. It doesn't matter how badly you want something, if nature/physics says no, then all you can do is stamp your foot and execute some generals.
They seem to think that getting to the moon just takes a bigger version of what they've already got, i.e. barely functioning missiles.
BTW did anyone see the recent bonhams "space history" auction? It included a shuttle guidance computer! It was stamped "ground only" but what a buzz to own one of those!

You can see it right now
In effect, no one will ever see it again. Why can't NASA give it to a museum?
If you want to see it, go to the item listing page at Bonhams. You can see a high-resolution photo of both sides of the sheet. For the purposes of research or curiosity that's a much closer look than you would get if it were behind glass in a museum. Besides, even though the Air & Space museum is huge (they've got a Concorde, 727, SR-71, Space Shuttle, etc), they don't have room to preserve and display every piece of paper that an astronaut ever wrote on. This is ONE PAGE out a binder with hundreds of pages, which is one of thousands of binders NASA used in the space program. It's autographed on one side by Lovell, so I suspect this is from his personal binder and a some point he was using pages out of it for autographs instead of using photos. Just because something is collectible, doesn't mean it's historically significant.

Full Auction Catalog
The full catalog for the auction can be found at the Bonhoms auction site here. There's some cool stuff there for movie buffs, including costumes from Dr. Who, Alien, Superman, Indiana Jones and Highlander.
A detailed picture of the Kenobi cloak can be found here. Apparently there are some hardcore Star Wars fans that doubt its authenticity, based on the locations of some hems and seams. -

NASA should have consulted QLooking at the picture of the crater, the rover presumably may not have enough grip to get out.
If only NASA had fitted the tyre grips used by James Bond in 'Die Another Day', it is not as if they cost a lot .
