    Yes agree, 'tired of owning crap' is a very positive development, countered by the advertising industry 'selling you crap since 1600, or so'. We really need to think about life goals, the shape of decent societies, circular/repairing economies rather than spending all our free time mooching through shopping malls. Buy nothing day is a start: http://www.buynothingday.co.uk... but we need to go further.

    And yes, my suggestions will change the shape of the economy and employment, but the status quo isn't making us that happy either.

    Most of my friends and family have celebrated materialistically simple christmas' these last few years. We've been inspired by some of the same ideas found on this excellent site about Buy Nothing Christmas.

    I had already been thinking about giving some of my loved ones open source software on CD-R's for Christmas. But just the other day a group of us got together and decided we'll put on a Free Store (take what you need, bring what you don't) on Buy Nothing Day. One of the things we're going to give away is CD-R's with Linux.

    I was planning on the Ubuntu live cd. When i used the release candidate live cd, it also had some of the contents of the OpenCD. That way, even if they don't decide to install Linux, they still get the Gimp and OpenOffice etc.

    This may be helpful.

    I also drink No Tea(tm). And occasionally the blood of my enemies, which although not technically free, is subsidised by Microsoft as well as the US government (who also help out by continually telling me who my enemies should be).
