    yep, you know as much japanese as I do (or more). I was looking for this page where they make that distinction ('domo' as short for 'domo arigato' [thank you very much] vs. 'domo' as 'more of'). The page also clears up the -kun part... the name came from an episode of <whatever> where the tv says "Domo konnichiwa".

    Also this picture mocking this picture, which is a takeoff on this picture sent around by people who have issues understanding the boundaries between their lives and other peoples'.

    I used the wonderful Otto, which worked great as an office Jukebox that was controllable via a great-looking web interface.

    Also, at home I use the brilliant ZINA (Zina Is Not Andromeda) which offers a great way to stream your mp3s on demand.

    Try otto.

    I have been using it for about 2 years now and it does exactly what you want.
    It uses a mysql as a db and a modified shoutcast on the front. It also has a very nice web interface.

    Ok you want multiple streams, a handy web based interface? How about otto?
    You can use multiple sound cards that connect to the localhost and play via mpg123 or you can stream them to other clients around the house, or they can listen to their own stream.

    If you want some really cool modifications look here.


    It's a modification to a television, not a computer, but it required infinitely more talent than I've seen in any case modifications posted here. Remembering not to sniff the paint isn't a talent, for most its common sense.

    I'm doing exactly what you describe with a spare laptop that had it's keyboard mangled.

    I created a supervise/svscan job to monitor the CDROM and tun abcde if it finds a CD, which allows me to insert a CD and have the laptop eject the CD when it's done ripping.

    Complete directory structure support for title/artist info.

    freedb and cddb support.

    otto then lets me play the new mp3s, and it makes life easier by managing them in mysql. I'd be happy to pay for abcde and otto, someone took the time to tie a bunch of tools and funtionality into a practical interface.

    I saw the Rocket Car story posted a long time ago at http://www.cardhouse.com/rocketcar/R OCKIT.HTML. Considering the cDc file links to a page that doesn't exist, I'd guess it's just a ripoff.

    That doesn't mean the whole story is or isn't a fraud (although it seems weird that someone would put so much effort into writing the story if it wasn't true), but it has definitely been around a while and been mirrored various places.
