A floppy drive is recommended?
A floppy drive is recommended for CWRU students? Aren't those obsolete? I haven't used floppies since last century.

The line outside sucks!
One thing the article doesn't mention is that, while the LAN is fast as hell, the line outside sucks. Split between Case, and the Cleveland art and music universities is a 45mbit line. That's right. It used to not be so bad when we used 10x this much and they didn't notice, but the ISP cracked down on bandwidth abuse this past semester and at times the line outside was slower than a 56k!

Recommend Dell or Apple
I don't suppose they're making money recommending these two specific brands are they?
Case EDU Computer Store>
Now what exactly do they think students are going to download with this kind of connection other than movies and music? The engineering and science students who might have lots of data prob need their lab computers since it has all the needed software on it. My argument is, the bandwitdh will not help much in doing their assignments. -
Re:thats my kind of college!wonder how many kegs he bought for that 20g... for testing purposes of course
As an alumnus of Case Western Reserve University, graduating way too many years ago (1988). I can tell you that with authority, that he probably didn't buy any kegs for testing. It's not exactly a party school -- or, at least it wasn't back in my day.

Re:for a non yankee.. please explain..They are also stereotyped as being a "degree mill" for those who were not qualified to attend a non-state school --- flooding the market the mediocre masses.
Oh, please....Now you are dragging us off topic. Must we bring this into the disucssion? Let's discuss the degree mills that private schools are. Think of all the idiot "Legacies" that were admitted to Ivy League schools. If their Daddy hadn't already graduated from that school, that Legacy wouldn't have been accepted. In fact, that Legacy, in many cases, isn't even smart enough to get out of high school. Because of the "Legacy" admission, many more qualified students are rejected and sent to state schools, instead.
Don't you dare refer to State Schools as "Degree Mills". In most cases, the education is better than in private schools. Think of the following quality public schools. University of Michigan, University of Texas, the SUNY system in New York.
In case you think I am just grumbing because I was rejected from private school, I want to state that for the record, I went to a private school for my undergraduate degree, Case Western Reserve University. For my graduate degree, I went to a public school, the University of Pittsburgh.

Case Western Reserve UniversityNot applicable for you, since you're already in school - but for those who are still looking:
When I went there, they had a large number of BIG merit scholarships.
For example
- the 22K Trustee's scholarship.
- the 17K President's scholarship.
- the 12K Provost's scholarship.

Re:So?That's what they imply in the press release. But on another page they say something else:
Only current students, faculty and staff of CWRU are authorized to use the wireless network and VPN services.
Does this mean that the "public" can use the network, but not the VPN? It's not clear from their pages. Anyone tried it?
