Re:Greenpeace responds to Steve responding
Greenpeace has not been a credible pro-environment organization for a long time. In fact, a lot of the pro-environment organizations have been known to oversell their cases. Rush Limbaugh exploited this in the late 80's/early 90's to gain credibility in his rise to fame.
By overselling their cases, they helped establish the political landscape we have today, where proof of environmental destruction is a tough sell, and the habit of lying even to themselves about the true state of things leads to nutjobs like the Earth Liberation Front, who destroy the environment in order to save it.
The best thing for the environment remains to be considerate of what things you consume and dispose of and where they come from and go to. And doing so almost always ends up saving you money as well. -
Re:Troll?
Sorry to double reply, but I forgot to address this:
Even if you hate Bush you shouldn't stand for the power grab the Congress is going for lately. There is a reason we have a separation of powers. If you keep heading down this road the president becomes a figurehead, and soon the people that write the laws will be enforcing them as well.
Are you seriously worried about the legislative branch running wild over the executive?!? Don't you have that completely and totally backwards? The current administration has evidenced a wildly outrageous interpretation of a supreme and nearly unchecked executive branch (energy policy secrecy, war, torture, rendition, signing statements, FEMA, FISA, domestic wiretapping, habeas corpus, scientific report "editing" us attorney purge, etc etc). Whether you like Bush or not, you are deluded to think the executive is in danger of becoming too powerless. The "power grab" you bemoan is the first inkling of actual checks and balances that we've seen in 6 years, and it is not only legal, but is also the way our government is intended to run. Congress has the responsibility for oversight, and the recent reversion to it is nothing but welcome.

Re:Modded "Informative"?
Here's another one.
There's this thing called "Google" thats good for looking things like this up. I hear some non-socialists use it and trust it though, so feel free to disbelieve your eyes when it returns results you don't like. -
Re:Say what?????
Environmental extremists are extremely bad for the real environmental reform.
So there was no smile on my face because I was dead serious.

During the past two decades, radical environmental and animal rights groups have claimed responsibility for hundreds of crimes and acts of terrorism, including arson, bombings, vandalism and harassment, causing more than $100 million in damage. While some activists have been captured, ecoterror cells - small and loosely affiliated - are extremely difficult to identify and most attacks remain unsolved.

Washington (CNSNews.com) - As concerns about eco-terrorism mount on Capitol Hill, there is more finger-pointing aimed at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which admits to having provided financial support to a group allegedly connected to the terrorism.
But while PETA acknowledges that some of its money has in the past gone to the Earth Liberation Front (ELF), and to the legal defense funds for several Animal Liberation Front (ALF) members, the organization denies that any of its money "goes toward illegal activities." -
Re:It's about time
Does he also lay out how multi-national corporations and their government cronies are poisoning the environment in third world countries, exploiting their labor and natural resources, and keeping their living standards low with their misguided policies? Oh wait, he probably wouldn't mention that, seeing as how he's a tool for people like this. I'm sorry your mind was so malleable that it could be changed by the rantings of this Randian nut job.

Re:NEW: Documents Proving NSA Spied on PEACE GROUPI understand what the report says... I guess I'm just at a loss to understand why the spend time putting these folks under surveillance,
Because the illegally re-entered a closed highly-secure military base after being denied entry. That's what security cops are there for. That's what the NSA security guards did anyway. If you are concerned about the surveillance of them before the came to NSA property then take that up with the Baltimore Police Department. The NSA security guards had nothing to do with that other than receive the report from the Baltimore Police Dept (BPD) and log it. You may not like it but nothing the BPD did was illegal either. They are allowed to observe groups demonstrating and be there to provide security if needed.
and how they gathered all the intel that they did...
Like I said, the documents say that was done by the BPD before the group got to NSA.
Why aren't they people protecting the country like they are supposed to be doing ?
Expelling trespassers from NSA property is what the NSA security guards are supposed to be doing. What else would you have them do if not provide security for NSA property?
Do you feel safer knowing that a dozen helium-ballon-wielding peace activists are under control now ???
Protest groups have a history of inflicting damage to government property. You only know this group was peaceful becasue they were observed. How can you determine if they are peaceful or not unless you observe their activities?

Definition of ViolenceWhile we're busy debating about the meaning of violence you might want to look at the essay Nonviolence and its Violent Consequences . I presume one of the documents by which the Earth Liberation Front justifies its actions.
I've found a chronology of the Earth Liberation Front's actions. It seems as though much of the activities in 2000 were dedicated to torching new oversized houses being built in sprawling neighborhoods.
