Re:Poor New Zealand
It's the internet, you can't put the genie back in the bottle. Here is a mirror if you're having trouble. I can re-compress it if necessary to get around content aware filtering.

Re:I would love to, but that server is a soup Nazi
So I tried to view the PDF, and it says "can't use the plugin, it causes problems on our server". So I figured I'd just download the file with wget instead. Nope, 403 forbidden.
Looks like fetch works though. If anybody else has trouble getting the file, try my local mirror.
Just use axel instead of wget. Problem solved.....

Re:It's a touchscreen issue apparently
I don't think I've ever used a touchscreen ATM, they ALL have those buttons here. Maybe some of them have touchscreens too, but I've never actually tried. The problem is that there is still a calibration issue between the buttons and the screen. I mean how many times have you started to use an ATM only to see a screen like this? It happens all of the time around here.

Re:Laughing Man
News Flash: it's too late. If you see this man, do not approach. Consider him armed and dangerous.

Obviously...
This needs to be done.

Re:Stuff
Sure. Here is a pretty good idea of what it looks like on a modest 132x60 console. Most people using console mode probably do better than this, but this is what you can do without getting too funky with your video card.

Re:Bah!
I hate rebooting. It means I have to stop all of the background processes on my machine (including time limited things like news downloads) just to play a game. Plus I have to maintain an OS I barely ever use (It's not like you can just connect an unpatched Windows box to the net, and I usually want to play games online).
I've found that if a game requires rebooting, I'm much less likely to play it because I have to deal with Windows again. That's why I still love my old Loki games. -
Re:fonts types vs anti-aliasing
Actually, that was where my backhanded reference for Xft came in. I've never managed to get Xft to actually pay attention to that setting ever. I've tried about half a dozen times over the past few years, and it just never seems to work. It doesn't help that the documentation for Xft is lousy to boot and that it occasionaly blows up in mysterious ways. Heck I still have a screenshot from last time I tried using Xft: Mozilla.

Re:OT: Thermal management: PC design sucks...
Ages ago on Slashdot I gave my reccomendation for a vertical PC, which has almost everything (power supply, cards, external bays) mounted vertically and fans on the bottom sucking air in and pushing it out the top. The case would be designed to avoid the terrible obsructions to airflow most PC cases have, and would allow fairly easy access to the cards (especially those danged USB ports). The only downside is you can't stack anything on top of it, and it would be longer/shorter than a typical PC case. You would have to be careful that all of your equipment could be mounted vertically, but that shoudln't be a big problem these days. Because I'm terrible at explaining it, I've posted a quick drawing of my concept. It's not to scale, but it should give you an idea of what I want.

Re:Kohans - short reviewOne more thing. The Loki Kohan folks still have an active community on the Loki newsgroup. There are even a few sites dedicated to Kohan on Linux/FreeBSD:
Even if you've never played before, the Linux folks are great to play with and kind to newbies.
