Re:Heart Pounding
The article seems to be somewhat retarded anyway, so I hope nobody minds some OT.
Is it a Chieftec? The case surely looks like Chieftec Dragon. Some details are different though so I'm not sure. I noticed it because I'm a proud owner of a black Matrix case.
I must say I'm very pleased with the overall quality and construction: no screws to open the side door, easey to remove the front door and panel, etc. I wouldn't agree that it's ugly, but it is heavy - about 16kg or 35(?) pounds *empty*, and now with 3 dvdrw/cdrw/cdrom drives, a few disk, racks and other stuff is a almost unmovable. Oh yeah it is a full/big tower =) -

Re:Alt Graph....
"AltGr" still exists on non-US keyboards. It's usually where the right Alt key would be on a US keyboard. On the keyboards I've used, there are three symbols on some keys, for example the 2 key also has " and @ on it. Shift-2 produces ", AltGr-2 produces @.

Re:RAM?
Maybe a bit overkill, but I have a Zalman CNPS6000-Cu on it. This thing is heavy and certainly nothing for an ITX case. It comes with a huge fan but I don't use that. I do have adequate case cooling though. The temperature is at 28ÂC when idle (in a cold room it was as low as 21ÂC, so basically it is equal to the system temperature) as I said. Under load it once climbed up to 39ÂC (that was a hot day). It never exceeded 40ÂC so far.
As for RAM, the box currently has 1GB but that's only because it was cheap and is going to be used in my desktop once that is upgraded to a DDR capable board. It normally runs with 256MB which is still overkill. And of course, it runs NetBSD :) -
Re:Just as I suspectedI think the users are a big part of the problem. If you don't cool your drive properly, it will die. Heat kills bearings. And the failure rate inreaseses exponentially with temperature. A drive that might run 10 years at 30C might die after 1 year at 60C. What percentage of people actually have active, fresh air cooling for their drives? My guess is that modern drives are more sensitive to heat, and the manufacturers can't really control the cooling design of every individual PC, so they just shortened the warranty.
You might want to use a utility like DTemp or hddtemp to check your drive's temperature, and improve your cooling if your temps are over 35C. I've been using a Chieftec Dragon case for my home box for a few years now, which has a really nice drive cage with an integrated 80mm fan that blows fresh air directly over the drives, and my temps are rarely over 30C.

for the record...
Just for the record, Antec did not design that case. Rather, a company called Chieftec designs and creates the case -- Antec, like several other companies, just slaps their name and sells the cases.

case they used
that thermaltake case is nearly exactly like my case, my case just doesn't have the window, is different color(blue/electric blue) without logos, and doesn't have a hole on the 'door' for front panel, which is also missing from my case.
My case cost me 90e without PSU and is made by chieftec, http://www.chieftec.com/products/Workcolor/ColorDX .htm
you can see pics of the on page 6, http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/other/silent_p c/6.php that case they used is priced $169.99 USD on 'sale' at http://www.thermalmasters.com/
they have cheaper thermaltake cases also, they include still the front panel. Thermalmasters does not say is the side fan included or not, it came with Chieftec.
Inside is exactly the same according to the pictures @ thermalmasters. Although this Thermaltake case looks more awesome than the Chieftec one it is more expensive, also this Chieftec case i have can be get cheaper if you take the Black version, it does not include the fan at side.
So if you are budget i recommend selecting Chieftec instead of Thermaltake case.
if anyone is intrested i can also post pictures of my Chieftec case. -
Re:child-resistant case?

The Best Case I've Used
Would have to be the Chieftec Dragon. It Looks amazing and comes in all sorts of silly colours (Mine Is bright green). Although it's not beyond the capability of anyone here to spray a case. They have Loadsa places to stick fans with little and even throw in a side panel fan (although it sounds like a lawnmower).

Re:good cases
Personally, I'm really fond of Alienware's selection.
The mid-tower case they use for some of their machines looks like the Chieftec DX-01WD. I snagged a couple of 'em for home use...one from PC Club, the other from Newegg. They're available in beige, black, and (IIRC) dark blue. They're made of fairly thick material and are easy to work with (removable 3.5" drive cages, rails stored in the bottom for 5.25" drives, snap-in frames for lots of 80mm fans). They're schweet. -
Re:These guys have color too
Alienware (I saw a case at Best Buy of all places). is OEMing through Chieftec dragon series which is a 'clone' of Antec 1000 series (there is atleast 1 asian maker of this case series as well).
Chieftec cases
I have 3 Dragon series DX-01 and 1 Scorpio TX-10Nice for keeping the dual AMD machines cool (w/just fans) very nice venting. I bought mine via newegg.com and directron.com, my cube neighbor bought his at CompUSA IIRC. Most places sell chieftec as a house brand (directron). Newegg was out-of-stock last I checked.
