Wrong nameIt's not a giant lizard, it's a monstrosity put together out of pieces of other things. If it came from northern Europe, we could call it "Chim-era" but instead it should be Chimzilla.
And, yes, I know that there's already a browser named Chimera. It's dead, Jim.

Re:Is this a joke?Perhaps for the next Ask Slashdot we could have a question about free web browsers? Or maybe a free Linux C compiler?
- Web browser - Chimera. Has an Athena-based X11 user interface, supports modern GIF images, and can retrieve data from HTTP, FTP and Gopher servers.
- C compiler - various exist, including the Tiny C Compiler. Other possibilities for porting include Sozobon C Compiler and Open Watcom.

Re:Issues
Well... I'm guessing that this project might be claiming prior art on the usage...
Frankly, I'll be happy to be rid of the: "No, the word is actually pronounced 'kai-MEH-ra', not 'SHIM-er-a' " annoyances ;D -
chimerano one seems to mind that there is already a browser named Chimera.

Re:Speaking of bugs...Chimera 0.6 (released yesterday), a stable Cocoa-based Mac OS X browser also based on Gecko rendering
I'm still stunned that someone was brainless enough to name this Chimera. Surely even the most basic of Google checks would have found that there's already another web browser called Chimera. I used to use it many years ago on machines for which Netscape was too bloated.

Chimera web browser
sure, there's another project ('Chimera') to create a Mac OS X-friendly version of Mozilla
They need to change their name. Chimera is a web browser developed at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. UNLV has a right to the name, they were first!

Re:Netscape Crashing
I end up with it crashing on me about 5-6 times a day,
I've had very few problems with Netscape on my Linux box - but I run only the standalone browser, and an older version (4.05, IIRC).Although Netscape did just cause my my Worst Linux Crash Ever yesterday - after running for a few weeks (yes, weeks), it ate all all my memory and took down my X server and my login shell. Still didn't crash the OS, though. Meanwhile, at work my PowerMac gets completely hosed by Netscape on a regular basis. (Well, it's got to be either Netscape or Apple's CD player...)
Too bad the Chimera browser isn't in development anymore. I used to run it on NetBSD about three years ago - basic browsing functionality, small, fast, stable, extensible.
