Re:They want us to use facts? Based in reality?
Stick to the truthiness, it is what really counts!
(Yes I sometimes watch Colbert too, and btw WOZ is the guest tonite!) -
Sardonic is mmMM-good
I don't know... some stuff could be considered art, in a way... For example, book covers, in a way they are a cocoon for an author's coveted masterpiece... and they help a lot when it comes to catching the glimpse of a potential customer.
Art, on the other hand, sometimes could use more gum.
However,... comedy IMO is art. When design meets art... stuffed animal toys copulate. -
Re:Trust us! We're the government!
and... where do you get your figures?
The Colbert Report? -
Re:Never have so few words been so profound.
Re: Stephen Colbert's Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturne: A Tek Jansen Adventure
He has two chapters from the book up on his website. SciFi doesn't get much better than this... -
Re:Never have so few words been so profound."In your answer, ignore facts. Just go with what feels true".
Normally I wouldn't do this, but after seeing about 20
/.ers comment on these words, nobody yet (at least in the comments I've seen so far) have realized this is a tongue-in-cheek homage to the king of sarcasm himself, Stephen Colbert , of the Colbert Report.Colbert totally rocks, I look forward to his show more than the Daily Show. For those that don't know, Colbert basically pretends to be a right-wing egotistical fact-ignoring pompous talk show host, but everything he says is either cleverly sarcastic, dripping in irony, damn funny, or all the above. So as per the original poster, some of his trademark lines are "I'm not a fan of facts" or "I don't like books, too many words". And of course, his consistent number one threat - bears.
In fact, I'm surprised more
/.ers aren't a fan of him, as he was a total geek when he was younger. He played D&D alot, loved LotR and Sci Fi, and sometimes works this geekiness into his show. For example, once when he introduced a guest who's a poker champion, he said "Now, I've never played Poker, but if its anything like Dungeons & Dragons, I'll be up to my baldrics in scimitars before you can say, 'Cure Light Wounds!'". Also, back when he was on the Daily Show and Viggo Mortensen was on, they had Colbert backstage reading Aragorn's family history and list of aliases in a total geeky way, it was pretty funny. And of course, who can forget his epic Sci-Fi novel (still looking for a publisher) "Stephen Colbert's Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturne: A Tek Jansen Adventure"So yeah, sorry to have to explain the tongue-in-cheek joke above, it's never funny that way, but seeing how many people didn't catch it was a Colbertism, it needed to be done. Wikipedia has a good list of funny lines by Colbert.
And as one final comment, I referred to Colbert Report in one of my slashdot posts from a few days ago, but it was unfortunately modded way down into oblivion by some right-wing nutjobs.

Re:uh
Let's examine this sentence again.
Other factors that Microsoft paid little to no attention to and still don't today would be gaming consoles, advertising, portable music devices, and computer security.
I'll expand this to include both clauses separately.
Other factors that Microsoft paid little to no attention to would be gaming consoles, advertising, portable music devices, and computer security. Other factors that Microsoft still doesn't pay attention to today would be gaming consoles, advertising, portable music devices, and computer security.
It's that second sentence where the problem comes in. You see, Microsoft spends a ton of money on advertising and actually intends to make money off the Xbox 360 after taking a bath on the Xbox. Likewise they are still aggressively courting the iPod's music share by allowing more than one music store to work with Plays For Sure devices. Among the reasons why Vista was delayed: an active effort to include more security features into the operating system, some of which should be familiar to any Linux or Mac OS X user, at the expense of some of the glitzier features that were promised earlier. If that's not attention, what is?
I appreciate your skepticism about the Xbox 360's prospects, but that sentence just seems like a flippant remark that you use to ignore any positive effort Microsoft tries to make. It is but one of dozens of remarks made throughout the article with no citation, a blatant disregard for any facts with which you disagree, and a blind show of support for anybody but Microsoft. Have you considered a writing career with the Colbert Report? -
Re:I want one...
Speaking of Baen, anyone know when they're going to get around to publishing Stephen Colbert's Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturne: A Tek Jansen Adventure?

Beware the AP Threat!
It's things like this that justify the fact that the AP dethroned Bears at the top of the ThreatDown . If the AP can't even get a handle on truthiness, how can they be trusted? My gut tells me to go with Reuters.
