Re:Why nature abandoned asexual reproduction?
Exactly. Bananas use asexual reproduction. ( info for those who are unaware of the connection)
Bananas do not use asexual reproduction. Human producers seeking a fruit that can be easily harvested and shipped internationally have propogated a sterile mutant variety that, being a sterile mutant, doesn't have a wide range of alternatives.

Re:Why do people continue to believe alarmist crap
Does a frog know it's being boiled?
Yes. The belief that a frog won't notice if the water is heated slowly is a myth.
Aren't frogs going extinct?
Some species are, but not all.
Another fact: Big animals were disproportionately exterminated in all mass extinctions. The survivors tended to be generalists (rats, cockroaches, humans, etc.) and geographically dispersed.

So enjoy your moment of being an anonymously retarded fool +1, it will soon end.

Re:Where's the article?
Here's one: Plastic plankton.
-
Re: One non-disturbing theory
A vast amount of this plastic is breaking up into tiny pieces, which then form a new class of plankton plastic plankton - and this plastic plankton is being eating by sea creatures along with the phytoplankton and zooplankton which make up their normal diet. Nobody knows what the effects of this will be.

Re:What are you going to do?
Except that buying local can increase your carbon footprint. Basically, for things not involving expensive inputs (e.g. produce), the price of a commodity correlates pretty well with the energy expenditure required to produce it. There is a reason local produce tends to be more expensive--it is less efficient.
