Re:Consistent and Intuitive UI will be important
Check out Convea, it provides the platform, every application shares the same consistent IE.
Crying shame they get ignored so much.

The best AJAX application I've ever seen
Comes from a company called Convea, which I believe is just one guy and why I'm all the more amazed at it. It's certainly inspired me to rethink what is possible with a browser, and what great benefits web applications bring over conventional apps.
Check it out: http://www.convea.com/ -

Re:Just part of the OS...
I think the next logical step would be for Google to branch out into GroupWare. Mail is the cornerstone that Groupware is based on, and a great Schedule and Phonebook is not out of Google's reach, even without those new hires.
If I was Google, I would look into developing technology like Convea's (http://www.convea.com/convea53.asp) great DHTML based groupware into a full "virtual" OS. That is, a shell for developing other great web based productivity software. -
Next gen = web = Oddpost / Convea
Shame the article does not cover web apps. See Oddpost www.oddpost.com and Convea www.convea.com for two of the best.

Re:My 2 on SCOx
SCO recently acquired an Intranet product - WebFace - that they are flogging.
Convea, a UK startup, have offered their competing open source product at no charge to existing and prospective SCO clients.

Re:Somebody help me
Some free help with your ad:
"Welcome to Convea, the revolutionary web-based business application platform."
You did that website? Looks absolutely marvellous - but Dreamweaver isn't going to help you post a link here. So learn some HTML. Useful, isn't it? Unless your "revolutionary web-based business application" can live without it.
And for the record, your ad in this context comfortably fits my definition of spam, whatever you say.

Convea's GPL Summary seems off
Convea summarizes the GPL as follows on their download page (emphasis mine):
You need to purchase commercial non-GPL Convea licenses if:
--you distribute Convea Software with
your non open source software
--you intend to directly profit from the
provision of Convea software or services
--you want warranty from Convea Ltd for
the Convea software
--you want to support Convea development
I think that item 2 isn't quite consistent with the GPL. In fact, it seems pretty antithetical to the actual wording of the GPL as well as to the spirit of it.
Am I missing something?
