Re:You are very lucky...
Where does your energy come from? Looking at http://www.coolnurse.com/calories_burned.htm, and extrapolating to 300 lbs, you would burn 612 calories walking briskly (15 min/mile) for 60 minutes. Beyond that, 1750 calories is a starvation diet at your weight. Are you metabolizing your muscle mass? I'm sure you talked this over with your specialist, but your post made me curious...

Re:US of AThe age of marriage in some US states is as low as 12 years.
That seems a bit low. According to http://www.coolnurse.com/marriage_laws.htm , the minimum age (without parental consent) is at least 18 in all states. With parental consent does seem to be significantly lower, though many states seem to require court approval or similar for people under 16.I wonder how common such young marriages are?

Re:statutory rapeWhere is the line drawn? Depends on what state you're in: http://www.coolnurse.com/consent.htm

Re:Explain this
I'll back it up.
http://www.coolnurse.com/teen_pregnancy_rates.htm
"The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the western world, despite the fact that our teens are not more sexually active than Swedish teens, or Canadian teens, or British teens. Why? Because we don't educate about birth control in sex education classes, we don't discuss it at home, we don't give teens good access to it, and we don't advertise it in our media. Other countries do, and they are rewarded with low rates of teen pregnancy and teen abortions."
Or http://www.agi-usa.org/pubs/fb_teen_sex.html
"Teen pregnancy rates are much higher in the United States than in many other developed countries--twice as high as in England and Wales or Canada, and nine times as high as in the Netherlands or Japan."
Amsterdam is in the Netherlands.
Google "teen pregnancy rates" and you'll be inundated with evidence that the original poster is correct. -
Re:how does it feel?
They are the products of a public school system that has taught them [...] how to become pregnant
Please. The U.S. has double or more the teen pregnancy rate of Canada, England, France, and the rest of western Europe. You think they're teaching abstinence overseas? Read what one of those horrible America-haters has to say here.
The real difference from the 50's is not the teen pregnancy rate. In the 50's people married earlier, or got married when they got pregnant. People are getting married later, and hitting puberty earlier.
As for GTA vs. previous games, apparently you've never seen Deathrace 2000 or Custer's Revenge. Halo, Doom 3, Medal of Honor, etc. all still have "the lone hero tasked with saving the world from the hordes of evil scum."
As for Survivor, we're watching less TV -- or at least less network TV -- than ever. A hit now has ratings that would have called for cancellation 10 to 15 years ago. No wonder low-budget shows are spreading. -
HBI is Absolutely right!!!!!
Gays not getting married will cure this right? I mean two people who aren't going to act as brood mares for the state couldn't possbly raise a right thinking child. In Denmark they've had gay marriage since 1989, and they're fortunate to find a week without famine or drought or viking invasion!
All sarcasm aside, an uninformed position defended adamently is a poor mask for ignorace. Be open about it, say that you just don't much like the gays and be out with it. ahhh, doesn't that feel better? -
Re:Profits at a pharmaceutical company (OT)
Whoa, I've heard about the ulcer cure, but there's a fungicide that gets rid of dandruff? Not to push any products, but what does one search for? All I could find was Synergine fungicide and Nizoral (scroll down).

Re:Small Minority?I'm not trying to dimish the problem. ANY assult is a problem. However statistics and definisions make the issue hard to understand. I take your example - and even though it doesn't have much to do with the news-item I think it nicely shows the problems in doing statistics.
What you said: Is that why: "one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before the age of sixteen"
The reference you quote, lists the definition of abuse, as:
- sexual touching and fondling
- exposing children to adult sexual activity, including pornographic movies and photographs
- having children pose, undress or perform in a sexual fashion on film or in person
- "peeping" into bathrooms or bedrooms to spy on a child
- rape or attempted rape
...and continues: (My highlights) "Of course, this list goes on. Sexual abuse involves forcing, tricking, threatening, or pressuring a child into sexual awareness or activity. Sexual abuse occurs when an older or more knowledgeable child or an adult uses a child for sexual pleasure.
The problems with statistics like this is definition of the sexual abuse. There is a huge difference in the listed items (rape vs. "peeping into bedrooms") - especially to the child. I personally don't consider peeping into the bedroom of my child a sexual offence, but rather that I care about my child.
In the "offender"-part, there is also a big difference if it is an adult, or an equally aged child that does it. Childen below 15 ARE interested in sexual affairs, and often explore these things with their friends - primarily verbally or through imagery. Stating that this is sexual abuse is IMO problematic.
So getting an overview over the amount of offences isn't easy, as it is very hard to get good information about it. I think the information provided in the article, as well as your reference is bad statistics, because the definitions are way too broad to be of any use. -
Small Minority?
"...a very small minority of people actually into this stuff..."
Is that why: "one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before the age of sixteen" here and here.
25% of all children had a sexual encounter with an adult, either PeeWee Herman has been really busy or there are *a lot* of people very sexually attracted to children, not a 'small minority'.
Where are the studies and discussions on this issue? Oh I forgot they are being condemned by the United States Congress and state leglislatures for NOT toeing the line. Does it have a chilling effect on study of this issue, I'd say so big time. -
philosomatika ... *drool*
I owe the person who runs that plenty of money. the HOURS AND HOURS of pleasure that streaming broadcast has brought me.
A typical start to my Saturday nights would consist of this:
Heading off to my friend's place. A bunch of us meet there almost every Saturday night to figure out what we're doing. When we first get there, he has Philosomatika playing, with the WinAmp 'MilkDrop' plugin running into his 42" TV. Not all the time, it's either Philosomatika, or REZ... :-P
We'd get there, roll up a few dubes, smoke that with Philo going. And begin to discuss our plans for the night.
I find you can appreciate psy/goa trance without the use of any illegal substances, but it's a completely new experience with it's use.
If certain chemicals turn you off, you might want to find an organic solution.
Yes - I am well aware these substances are illegal. If you wanna know why, go research it yourself. :-) -
