This is not hard
There's nothing to this. You probably don't need additional hardware. Maybe a sound card. I have a 500 Mhz P3 box simultaneously encoding two video+audio streams full time. One is Windows Media and one is Real. The box is more than enough. You're talking about encoding just audio. One computer should do fine.
Get & install two soundcards. Connect the outputs of each source into the line in of each.
Get a copy of Darwin Streaming Server or Helix Server or any of the shoutcast MP3 streaming things.
The benefit to using Darwin or Helix is that they're made to record from live input rather than just streaming files on the drive.

How the hell is Mac OS X a rip-off of NeXTStep? It is NeXTStep. Apple did buy NeXT after all, and I'd argue that Apple has since become NeXT.
Now, as far as BSD goes, yes Apple did use very large portions of it. Have you actually read the BSD license before, because I'd love for you to explain where Apple are violating it. Infact, with the Darwin Project, Apple are going far beyond what they are bound to provide.
As as for KJS, well, "All Apple changes will be contributed back to the mainline version". Once again, that don't actually need to do this, but they are anyway.
Both of these are totally within Apple's rights. If you'd like to argue this, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
Apple have used open-source software in completely legitimate ways, and have gone out of their way to contribute their enhancements back. -

- OpenBSD
- MacOnLinux which lets you run Mac OS on top of Linux
- Darwin which lets you run the X server and related programs
- Windows if you have to via emulation (which is also very fast.

Apple has more or less given us proof that both gpl'ed (aka "free") and closed source software CAN and DO work well together, in fact, they can work so well together to such an extent that whole operating systems are built on the idea.

MacOS X, Darwin and cheaper kitMaybe if osX was to go multi-platform, then I'd care...
Darwin, the NeXT-like BSD/mach core of MacOS X, runs on Intel kit. It's foreseeable that this may eventually provide a compatibility engine that will permit Mac software developers to port to the cheaper kit. On the other hand, I can't think what strategy Apple would be able to adopt to compete in the large, competitive hardware market that this would create, except by making its GUI interface a major selling point. That would be feasible if Microsoft continued to bite the hands that feed it (which, on previous showings I suppose, is always possible).
Actually, this doesn't sound like such a crazy idea. A friend was trying to impress me with the one of these Titanium book thingies the other day, but all I could think about was how much nicer it would be if I could run the same lovely Mac software on kit at a price point that *I* chose.

I have nothing but admiration for Apple's recent moves--successfully leveraging the large open source developer base has given the company a lot of credibility, completing the revamp that started with the iMac. I would never spend any money on Apple hardware (it's far too expensive in my country), but they've got the makings of a great cross-platform OS.

...No not about the mystery press conference tomorrow where Steve Jobs will turn on the Reality Distortion Field and shock us with his "pssst, It's not a Mac" new product. No, I am talking about the native port of Tcl/Tk applications on Mac OS X!!!
You know I am going to end up with whatever Steve Jobs shows off tomorrow. I already have a closet full of Netwons, QuickTake Digital Cameras, Power CDs and exploding PowerBook 5300 batteries for home defense. -
