Re:This is just sheer stupidity.
It does make a certain amount of sense, actually. After all, space toilets have been known to kill people.

Gotta watch out for those falling toilet seats!

Re:Its about time!
Forgive me if I start ranting and raving in this post - so I'll just go ahead and put a **RANT** disclaimer to this entire post.
I agree with you ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVENTYBILLION PERCENT!
I seriously wonder if a bunch of fucking brain-dead retarded dumb fucks are the ones rating shows. I mean... REALLY! Why is that a lot of shows on TV are
a) predictable
b) spinoffs
c) stupid reality shows that should be slaughtered, dismembered, burnt, and then the ashes thrown into the sun
d) completely lame, ridiculous, unfunny shows that cater to the lowest common denominator.
Perhap's (d) is the problem. I am seriously starting to think that the average IQ of the TV-viewing population of America hovers somewhere slightly above 20. This can be the only explanation for the continued "successes" of stupid TV shows, and the cancellation of good ones.
Ok, at this point someone may come up and say "Yeah, well you're just pissed of that YOUR TV show got cancelled!". That's not it - I just don't understand why shows that I start liking, start cancelling. Just like the parent said, I'm not sure if I have bad taste, or unique taste, or WHAT, but whenever I find a show that is intelligent and witty, or one that has a completely new premise, it gets cancelled. For example, there's Arrested Development (cancelled after three seasons) and then there's Dead Like Me (more info). Both are intelligent and witty shows, which were cancelled.
I seriously wonder... what kind of FUCKED UP system DO they used to determine a good show? The number of brain-dead retards that watch it? Because that would REALLY explain why the stupid shows stay, and the good ones go.
Sorry for sounding really bitter and arrogant. But that's why this is a rant. -
Re:Anime != geek!!!
While I agree they arent synonymous and they shouldnt be, I'll tell you why I watch anime.
The majority of shows I see on television are crap. There are a few exceptions, but by and large the shows are all the same. Crime, mystery, sitcoms. One show, recently cancelled that accually fit outside the mold was Dead like Me, which I enjoyed quite a bit.
Anime provides an open medium. When you are drawing your characters and environment, you are completely unlimited in what you can do. It makes for more interesting stories - more fantasy or scifi. Plus, in the anime genre, its quite common for the run to be limited to one over-arching plot line - often in increments of 13 episodes - most commonly in 26 episodes. I'm of the opinion that good stories can sometimes take a while to explain.
They make anime for every age group - from kids to adults to pervs - girls and guys alike. There is something for everyone.
I usually introduce people to anime with a combination of Perfect Blue - quite possibly the most freaky suspense movie I've ever seen. Also, Spirited Away the highest grossing film in Japanese history - more Disney, but still quite good.
Take the plunge - its worth it. Especially if you lack movies with ninjas and big fucking swords. -
Boom Boom Ba
At least when Hubble dies and falls into the ocean, we don't have to worry about having a space toilet hit someone and kill them like Mir did in Dead Like Me. But Hubble is going the way of all good TV shows. Cancelled: Firefly, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, and Enterprise. OK, strike that last one. Enterprise sucked. Oh well Boom Boom Ba.

Re:The curious searchers' pricing model
The other replier is right, it is Pink Martini. Check out this, this, and this.
I don't have a lot of that type of music, but I love Sympathique and I highly recommend it. And their live shows are amazing, especially when they play with a full orchestra. I've heard their music in a few shows or movies, but I don't think they are that well known. If nothing else, it makes great background music for special dinners. -
