Pale Moon sometimes deletes the NoScript add-on.
Pale Moon tries to convince you not to use the NoScript add-on, and sometimes deletes NoScript.
Pale Moon also doesn't allow the use of the Ghostery add-on. It is necessary to use the Disconnect add-on, which has both a free and paid version, and has a much-less-useful user interface. -
Surveillance by proprietary software
Your content isn't worth the trouble. Toss me an add and let me see the content.
Some sites don't even toss me an ad. They toss me the URL of a third-party proprietary computer program written in JavaScript that surveils my browsing history across multiple websites and uses the battery life and Internet bandwidth that I pay for to choose an ad from one of a dozen or more ad networks. And if I say no to proprietary software or no to surveillance, these sites are incapable of falling back to a publisher-hosted ad like those seen on Daring Fireball and Read the Docs because interest-based ads pay three times the CPM.

See, in this sense San Francisco is the opposite of Soviet Russia.
-
Re:Fine
Actually http://search.disconnect.me/ pulls content from DuckDuckGo but protects you from their tracking.
-
Re:One can only hope.
I don't object to reasonable advertising. I will not tolerate the tracking, though, and until it stop then I am keeping my adblocker in place and not disabling it for anybody. If that means I'm locked out of some sites, then so be it.
That's why I use the tracking protection built into Firefox. It's enabled by default in Private Browsing windows and can be enabled through about:config for use outside Private Browsing. It and the similar Disconnect extension should cover ad networks and ad exchanges that track users across sites. This gives the user plausible deniability against accusations of freeloading, as it a publisher (operator of a website that carries ads) can still serve self-hosted ads to tracking blocker users.

Re: You mean the StatCounter website I have blocke
He's right, statcounter by default has been blocked by AdBlockPlus for a long time (although possibly only the "easyprivacy" list).
And seeing as ABP is the most popular extension by far, and the in-built Tracker Protection in Firefox also blocks statcounter (although currently only active in private browsing mode).
... the stats could be pretty skewed.

Re:interesting
Well, our source code is available so you can check that we do not monitor what you do with your privacy
:). But if you don't like Privacy Badger, try Disconnect, ublock, AdAway, AdBlock or Adblock Plus(though you'll need to manually subscribe to Easy Privacy for AB and ABP)! -

Donated some money? Hahahahahhaaha. I wonder WHY they approached Torproject? You don't get paid for that CURRENTLY? Nice wording! But there was a DONATION, rrrriiiiight? I can't wait for future news! Please do let us know if and when you start collecting further $$ from the source.
I am insulted. I will continue to use Startpage's free web proxy service in TBB, and DuckDuckGo's

So what's next, Torproject? Keystroke logging for Amazon or another company? Partnering with Recorded Future or something like it? Is this what the project has come to now? But that "Disconnect" Search Engine site is so pretty. So nice and clean, WOW! It sort of reminds me of the polished DoD sites I have wandered through.

Re:A record ? # of trackers at 16 ???
Ghostery sells data to advertisers and was bought by an ad network some time ago.
Use Disconnect instead.

Re:End state and private capitalism.
Re: "Much like minimum wage, the only thing you'll accomplish is raising the cost of living" -- An example of another fallacy promoted by the neo-liberal, free market, faith-based (faith in the invisible hand, that is) end of the spectrum. How many studies and examples in the real world does it take to put this one to rest? Check: https://search.disconnect.me/s...
If you phase out corporate wage subsidies from the govt., corporations will have no choice but to pay their workers a living wage. Add to that manditory, single payer health insurance and the costs for both employers and employees go down dramatically. Raise the minimum wage and workers get a bigger share of corporate profits which goes back into the consumer economy boosting demand for consumer goods and the economy as a whole. Everyone wins. We're continuing to push all the money up to the 1% and they aren't spending it in the real economy. They aren't creating any substantial demand and demand is what drives consumer economies.

Re:Wear the tin foil hat
Use noscript , disable cookies. If your tin foil hat is too thick , Tor it out.
This is not sufficient, a web page could also embed an image of some advertisers server. By simply requesting this image, the server already knows you by IP.
To prevent that, try Ghostery or Disconnect

Re:Trust Me!

Turn it all off
There is an browser addon called Disconnect that blocks your browser from loading most if not all tracking resources, this includes the social media buttons used by Facebook to track your browsing. I put it onto every browser I come into contact with that supports it. https://disconnect.me/

Re:What's DNTPlus? Is it free software?
Yes, check this out.

Pot, kettle
Ok, in this case should be a black hole calling another black hole black. But at least you can avoid one of them (not joining, installing extensions like Disconnect, etc). And as far i know, facebook don't hack your own servers or the servers of your isps/cellphone companies/hosting companies to track what you do in your own space, or plant backdoors just waiting for the moment they will be useful, or force other, unrelated companies to install spyware for you. And of course, don't have such real life impacts like putting you in jail, expelling from US, or just send a drone to your area.
And even if were that evil and with that broad reach (that nothing in earth have it, no foreing government, no organization, no independent private companies, just US government and associated private companies, join kaos, cobra, and all the bond villains organizations and you still didnt reach what US government is doing) pointing that someone does something bad too don't turns the wrong that you into right.
