Registrar
Well, my registrar (home.pl) doesn't even allow non-private registrations.
Just check the whois record for angband.pl...
On the other hand, GoDaddy considers privacy to be an "extra service". -
Re:What's the big deal?
He registered it before they trademarked iTunes, not before they announced it. Furthur, he registered it over two years after Apple registered itunes.com (link is to whois data).
-
Re:How long?
Apple registered itunes.com in August 1998, though. Over two years before Cohen's domain.

Beta or not this is irritating.
Many of you have heard or noticed the way in which the msn bot is pounding and raping away sites as of lately. The thing is behaving like a drunk man knocking on random apartment doors over and over again. Here is some sample data from my personal site..
2004-11-09 15:17:56 sync.X-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 14:25:37 permit-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 10:32:15 cdp-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 06:25:07 sync.X-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 06:19:18 permit-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 02:51:34 cdp-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 02:46:07 cdp-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 02:35:36 MultiplyWithMFC-1.0_src.zip 66.249.64.199
2004-11-09 00:55:05 sync.X-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 00:12:03 permit-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 00:10:57 permit-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-09 00:05:21 sync.X-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
2004-11-08 21:03:10 permit-1.0.tar.gz 207.46.98.33
Note that 207.46.98.33 is registered to Microsoft so lets assume it's the msn bot. Notice that the damn thing blindly keeps on downloading the same file! The requests are just a few minutes from each other. The other ip address is from google's bot. This can be dangerous for those of us who have transfer caps. I know that a simple tweak in robots.txt and/or meta tags should (hopefully) solve the problem but why do I have to do extra work because of their "ways" of implementing this thing? Beta or not they are using the whole web as their test subject and unless there is a reasonable explanation as to why this is being done, tests are not going well and well it's just annoying. ;)
Could someone enlighten me with an explanation as to why this could be happening?

Re:Fully armed and operational...
Your DNS information for the registered domain name Buran.org gives almost all the information any good stalker needs to know. Your name (possibly first name J. last name S.) your possible address (in Apt A), possible company (N. Technologies) and lots of other information including your phone number, which is different from your business phone number. Also included is another person's name, your technical contact, who's location was not revealed.
Sooooo ummm yeah. There is lots of info out there. As soon as anyone register's a domain name, they "bend over." Granted, the pants are still on, but potential for trouble is there.
To see what I'm talking about, just go to dnsstuff.com and do a WHOIS lookup an anyone.

well it doesn't look like a GOP outfit
did some googling. and checked out the whois for americavotes.org. it's registered to a "Carol Trevelyan Strategy Group". googled that and it seems to only do business with progressives.
those local affiliates can have some weird news sources. -

I call BS on that "test"
Let me be among the first to call "Bullshit" on this supposed test.
Any nerd worth his salt knows to first check the headers of the e-mail and Lookup the IP to see where the mail really came from, and/or view the source of the HTML and identify obfusicated URL redirects. Then again, any IT guy who is using HTML-enabled e-mail should have his geek license revoked in the first place. -
Re:Set up your own SPF records
Also cool is this little SPF tester to tell you if you got it setup right.

Re:I have to say...This article seems to be mistaken. The domain ownership for windowsupdate.com, according to NSI (no link to their evil whois-substitute), is:
Microsoft Corporation
Carolyn Gudmundson
One Microsoft Way
Redmond, WA 98052
US
Other articles on this story say that the spammer used the domain windowsupdatenow.com, which is owned by:
Windowsupdatenow
8975 hoello
brazil city, brazil none

Re:How to tell?
Is there an easy way to tell if your own computer is a zombie spambot?
Yes, there is! If your IP is sending spam, believe me, we will have noticed via our extensive spam traps. Just query your IP at OpenRBL or at dnsstuff to see if you're blocked due to spam received from your IP.
Note that you can also appear on blocklists for various other reasons. So look into why you're blocked. If you're listed on AHBL, CBL, SpamCop, WPBL for example then your host is probably infected. -

Are you buying from an ev1 reseller?
For those who don't know where their hosting ultimately resides, ping your server to get the IP address, then use the IP Whois at DNSStuff.
