Re:you get what you pay for
Obviously you did not read their terms and conditions before relying on the service. DotTK are crooks by design. Their businness model is clear: get your money once you find the service useful.

Fools
They are using
.tk domains, just goes to show you what fools you're dealing with. Those domains won't last long. -
About ..TK...
This is a bit off on a tangent, but if anyone is having problems accessing the Tokelau domain registrar (http://dot.tk), try a new name server. There seems to be a problem with certain ISPs' DNS with regards to that site. It's not negligence, at least not on their part.

.tk domain has a plan where you can register a domain name for 9 years. That is quite a long time, IMO. Registering a domain name for 100 years is just a con to get lots of money. -
dot.tk
Actually I prefer Tokelau for my free/cheap domain addresses from a small island nation, mostly because
.tk is close enough like "tech" to get a geek like me smiling. However it figures that /. is being used by some idiot who links to a non-existant page, shows off a nice custom 404 on the hosting site tho. Actually I wonder if Tokelau got hit by that hurricane too, nothing on their site about it (yet).

Re:Forced copyright assignment
My (cable) ISP blocks port 80, so I run my HTTP server on port 83. Then I went to dot tk and got a free forwarding domain (it opens the page you tell it to point to in a frame). There: I have an easy to remember domain (no colon at the end) and it's running off my own server. (Link is my homepage)

dot tk!!
dot tk is fairly cool. Not only super cheap @ $10USD/year, but they also have that whole jeweled isle feel to it. Slap a rather decent webdeisgtn on it and check out the online interface dealie, and you don't have that bad of a package for your buck. I've had my domain with them and even registered a fre of the free pointer domains. All in all a good setup.
