Re:Devil's Advocate...
The current model Saab 9-5 also has a HUD.
More importantly, however, I think that window-sized transparent screens will be good to selectively strongly tint areas where sun is shining through. Not at all dissimilar to these prototype LCD sunglasses that do exactly that:

URL Switcherooo
I don't understand why Slashdot changed the source link. This was the original URL: http://www.ecouterre.com/worlds-smallest-wedding-rings-made-of-interlocking-dna/ It wasn't via any other site, either, which makes the switch even more puzzling.

I call bullshit on this!
Feel free to prove me wrong. No, really. I WANT you to prove me wrong.
Not a single bloody link in that article (and there are 10 of them, plus a video) explains anything even close to how this idea should work. Prove me wrong, give me the information. My guess - it is another one of those bullshit "artistic" designs based on magic and "hey wouldn't it be cool".
You know, those that don't bother to use even buzz-words like "nanotech", instead focusing on the Photoshop side of the idea.Oh, and if you like the dress, you're gonna love the breathing mask that cleans air, captures CO2 and stores it as electricity, mentioned in one of those links.
I hear it works on special mushrooms. -
3D printers
A coming technology that is still in very early days is a desktop fabber, also called a 3D printer.
There is an open source project to make useful fabbers. Current fabbers are designed to use easily-acquired parts. I look forward to the day when someone makes a fabber that can fabricate all the parts needed to build another fabber, but that day is distant.
P.S. A commercial 3D printer was used to make props for Iron Man 2, including the gloves for the suit.
