Media Player Classic
You could instead use Media Player Classic which is a "clone" of Windows Media Player 6.4, and can also play Quicktime and Real stuff (as long as you have them installed).
It's pretty slick. -
Re:QT Blows - GET EO_VIDEOThanks for the link. I have a 1 GHz Athlon, and it couldn't keep up with the framerate under QuickTime -- it got very jerky and had annoying pauses (the sound played fine).
Under EO Video, it was a lot less jerky but still had pauses. And the sound was out of sync as well, about 2 seconds behind the video. I'm currently converting the video to AVI (using XVID compression), and it's taking quite a while (15 minutes and it's about halfway done).
There, it's done, and playing under BSPlayer , it isn't jerky but is somewhat pixelated during fast motion scenes. (The file went from 99 MB down to 17 MB from the XVID compression.) The sound is still wrong, it seems more off than under EO Video (3-5 seconds instead of 2).
From another comment, I downloaded and tried Media Player Classic but it was as bad as QuickTime.
Anyone else having these problems? It doesn't seem to make sense, as I have a decent processor and 1.5 GB RAM...

Re:No FS in QT6
try media player classic. plays QT & RealMedia (and everything else) with a WMP6.4 style interface

Re:Windows port?
Check out Media Player Classic or jetAudio.
Both player are able to handle all DirectShow codecs (incl DivX) as well as RealMedia, QuickTime, and also DVDs.
jetAudio installs the RealMedia codecs, but no QuickTime codecs. Media Player Classic installs no codecs at all (that's why it's so small).

Re:Curse ye, Cruele Fate
I would suggest:
1) Buy the Japanese-only authentic non-pirate DVD
2) Download the timed fansub
3) Rip the DVD at some horrendously high-quality filesize
4) Sync it up
5) (if applicable) Burn yourself a DVDR and throw it in your player
Oh yeah, don't share it. You don't even have to register the apps you use to sub it or sync it or whatever, although a donation might be nice. -
Re:No you got it all wrong....
You might want to check out Media Player Classic (click on the MPC link) -- it's ol' Media Player, but with a whole whack of features such as DVD playback and a bunch of new supported file formats, including Ogg (audio/video), RealMedia & QuickTime.
Highly recommended. And no, I don't work them. I'm just a satisifed user!

Re:Windows Media Player Killer
Why bother with mplayer on windows?
Media Player Classic combined with FFDShow is all you need to playback any kind of MPEG1/2/4 content, and realmedia (provided realplayer 8 or 9 is installed). MPC looks just like Media player 6.4 and has useful features such as keyboard control, built-in subtitle rendering, and various video control options.
