Re:Speedball 2What, you mean like this? Ok, its on the PSone, but it looks like its still the old game, but with updated graphics.
The most worring thing, is that the Bitmap Brothers site hasnt been updated since May 1st, 2003. However they mention "Speedball Arena" there as being in production.
After a quick look around, it looks like theyre converting the recent Namco title "Kill.Switch" for PC, so they dont appear to be totally dead... which is nice.
Looks like I wont be seeing Gods or Magic Pockets on GBA for a while... damn.

Re:The Use of Double Negatives>Any zombie hunters or grammar police out there?
You must want the agent from The Typing of the Dead.

Typing of the dead ...
There was a game based on House of the Dead that was released a while ago. To kill zombies, you needed to type words written on them. The end result is that you have no choice but to learn how to touch type

Typing of the Dead!!!!!!
I tried and I tried and I tried..... but then I saw the light!! Typing of the Dead is a game (originally for Dreamcast I believe but it's been converted to PC) which teaches you how to type using the game House of the Dead (2, to be exact). When the zombies appear you have to type words to deatroy them. Sounds confusing? Here are some screens. It also has a tutorial (which finger on which key) and in general it's lots of fun. I know I did!

Re:One thing you could try
Forget Mavis Beacon, how about either "Mario Teaches Typing" (which is how I learned to touch type, and is probably available somewhere for download by now) or the new breed, "Typing of the Dead" which is basically "House of the Dead" but instead of guns, you use a keyboard weapon. It's true.

Re:What about real pinball games?
Check out the Pro Pinball series. They're the most stunning pinball simulations I've ever played, with very elaborate tables and multiple goals. Their latest release, Fantastic Journey, really requires you to think if you want to score big, as the riches lie in collecting combo bonuses and activating special modes. All in all, a very solid series of pinball killers.

Re:What about real pinball games?
The Pro Pinball series is probably the best line of computer-specific pinball games you can get. While you need Windows to play the PC versions, the tables are generally quite well designed, the physics are very well-done, and they even have the diagnostics and statistics that real pinball machines have. There's also a web site with worldwide high scores for each game.
One of the major knocks against the Pro Pinball series was that you only got one table for the price of a normal computer game. I thought Timeshock was well worth the full price, but at any rate this is no longer a problem. Last summer I found a bundle with all four games (plus a bunch of casino and other games) for only $25 Canadian. This is a huge bargain since the games have hundreds of hours of replay value! -
Funny you should mention it...
A whole group of us actually went out and purchased copies of Stars! (yes, Stars!) for the sole purpose of having legitimate copies so we could start some lengthy e-mail based campaigns.
It makes so much more sense too. We get about 18 hours to complete our turn, which means we can do it at our leisure, or you can really sit down and play out several different options to see which is best for a really nasty battle/trade agreement/whatnot. We're thinking that with so much more time to make our next move, that our games will be incredibly aggressive, and definitely some of the best gaming we've ever had. Plus there's so much to anticipate. We plan on 1 turn a day... just imagine our anxiety waiting an entire day to find out the outcome of an assult!
Not exactly a stressful game either. Runs on a 486 just great, Windows 3.1 and it runs in Wine just fine. You can order it straight from the UK for about £10.06 (about $14.05 U.S.) from Empire Interactive with shipping included.
Who says turn based gaming is dead? ;)
