Re: Stallman is an idiot
Specifically it's a reference to the Global Gag Rule", which censors discussion of abortion in the medical context. I don't see evil in the word abort. I am a little confused about what you think this says about me. You seem to be reading a lot into this. Do you not think that the rule is an anti-abortion measure?

It can't find anything I search for...
Seriously. I looked for a nonprofit organization I work with, EngenderHealth, and Cuil said there were zero results. Google returns something like 74,000+ results. Even Yahoo -- whose search I find remarkably useless -- returns nearly 10,000 results. Ditto for other company names I tried. Either Cuil is experiencing database issues, or their claim of "more pages than Google" is utter bunk.

Re:Unworkable
I know the folks over at EngenderHealth, Population Council, and similar nonprofits who work in sexual and reproductive health topics... sometimes have trouble with overzealous anti-spam filters marking messages as porn just because they're talking about sex, genitalia, etc. Tough to get work done when your emails keep getting dumped in the spam bucket.

Re:important moral question
I'm in a quandry. I see policemen beating lawyers on the streets in Pakistan. How should I be feeling?
That's a tough call. You should already be depressed, worried, upset, mad, and overall just frickin' pissed off at the terrible rape in the Congo (or even the U.S.), the starvation in Somalia (or North Korea, mothers dying around the world from a condition that can be treated simply and cheaply, incredible pollution in China and everywhere else, intense economic inequality in Latin America and how it's driving the obesity epidemic elsewhere in the world, the war in Iraq that will never end, and the spread of MRSA thanks to decades of using antibiotics too liberally.
This stuff in Pakistan is just more of the same. Please feel sad, perplexed, and angry.
The real question (which you missed) is this: what can you DO about it? Other than make snarky comments on Slashdot, of course.

Re:Two words
Do you know how much ignorance there is in developing nations about STDs, birth control, pregnancy, etc?
Actually I do. I am a supporter of EngenderHealth, a nonprofit organization that focuses on this very topic in Bangladesh and other developing countries.

Re:A Chicken in Every PotIn Russia more pregnancies end in abortion than anywhere else in the world, around 3 in 5. This has resulted in women dying when they actually want to have children because of complications from the abortions. I seriously knew a Russian engineering student down in Caltech that had over 5 abortions before she came to the US, reason? She did not want to get fat on birth control.
Quite frankly Russia and other countries with massive abortion rates like Europe are experiencing population death. The only thing keeping them afloat is immigration which is mostly muslims from north africa and south asia. Someone needs to start accounting for how radically abortion is effecting countries from an objective perspective. They have far more effect than any war we have ever undertaken.

Re:Lucky ladies!
At least Trichomoniasis has the excuse of being non-sapient.
Or did I just inadvertantly set up the next anti-Bush joke?
:-)
