Re:I agree...
For starters, why not make a trackerless bittorrent-like network? Oh well, back to the land of unicorns and castles in the air.
:(
Trackerless torrents are already supported, even in the official client.
If you're asking for a eDonkey-like thing with BitTorrent as the underlying protocol instead of the FastTrack network, that already exist too in the form of eXeem.
However, from my experiences, it's about as good as eDonkey in efficiency. That's the problem with less centralized networks. Since it's so easy to just seed yourself, people start seeding 20 copies of seemingly the same thing, where half of them were maybe misnamed torrents, and the rest 10 are forming groups of 5 instead of one group of 50, causing the speed to be about 10% of that on a centralized and more controlled tracker.
Also because such UI's basically encourages seeding and downloading from multiple sources, a lot of users may seed 5 things at once and leech from 10, and you run into eDonkey's problems with unfocused transfers. You think "yay, I found something with 20 sources", and then you see each source had about 2 kbps to spare for that specific torrent, since it's so easy for those to just start a lot of different downloads at once. -
Re:Hmm
You mean eXeem?
Spyware is what happened to it. I couldn't find anything of use on it, but YMMV.
Besides that, I really don't know too much. Apparently they released a new beta candidate. -
Re:P2P + BitTorrent
They're working on it now... check out exeem.

Exeem!Exeem is the declared heir to the SuprNova throne. But yeah there are new Bittorent trackers opening up daily.
Conclusion: BT is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Re:Is this true?
Taken from the eXeem main site:
"eXeem is a brand new Peer-To-Peer program, which is based on the BitTorrent idea. eXeem eliminates the need for trackers as nodes in the program will be taking their role. eXeem also features easy publication of files to the network as well as a rating and comments system. eXeem contains NO SPYWARE. eXeem is free and is ad-supported eXeem is currently still in its beta testing phase, which means that the network might not be completely stable yet. You are still very welcome to give eXeem a try and see how it is different from other Peer-To-Peer programs."
So it claims not to use Spyware, and yet admits in the FAQ that it uses Cydoor. I'm confused :-/ -
Re:eXeem Lite is useless as much as eXeem is
To the anti-p2p crowd:
You people make me sick. You know in your heart-of-hearts that there's plenty of legitimate uses for this technology, and yet you still try to paint p2p users with the broad brush of illegality. Go bust the kids trading Brittney tracks! Leave us the tools to easily distribute legitimate large files (Linux distros, Project Gutenberg archives, etc), you dark-minded fucks.
I'm sympathetic to your point, but this seems to be the wrong discussion to be making it in. Check out clause 7.b. of the eXeem license agreement. Users of the software agree not to redistribute or modify it. What are the people who made eXeem lite doing? Redistributing a modified version. Even if you use the software only to distribute 100% legitimate, public domain or freely redistributable stuff, you're still commiting copyright infringement by using eXeem Lite! -
Re:Is this true?
I downloaded and installed eXeem, it did not appear to include any spyware whatsoever. It certainly did not come packaged with Cydoor.
The ads appearing on the Exeem.com Web site and within eXeem(TM) application are delivered by our web advertising partner, Cydoor. Information about users of eXeem(TM) and Exeem.com, such as the number of times they have viewed an ad (but not user name, address, or other personal information), is used to serve ads to users.
Don't think that just because Exeem doesn't tell you at install time that it includes Cydoor, that it doesn't.

More than a little skeptical...
Well firstly, it's already been said in previous Slashdot posts that it's a company responsible for this, who the former owner of Suprnova has some sort of agreement with, which gives them credibility that they don't necessarily deserve (yet.)
But in the grand scheme of things, the client isn't open source, so you really don't know what's going on in there. And what's worse, the EULA revokes your right to disassemble / reverse-engineer the software, so they may well crack down on anyone trying to distribute an open source version:
b.In addition to those prohibitions contained elsewhere herein, you agree you will not:

Cydoor is a spyware program that causes popup and pop-under ads to be displayed while you are browsing the Internet. It also re-routes your web requests through third-party servers for the purpose of capturing your web surfing habits.
So you're not only spammed with ads, you're installing spyware. This is confirmed by eXeem Lite's FAQ:
2. Does eXlite contain spyware?
eXlite was sorely made to take out the spyware from eXeem so to make it clear eXlite does not contain spyware.A closed source, advert spamming, spyware installing pile of crap that you are expressly forbidden from reverse engineering... sounds like a whole barrel of laughs.
As far as I'm concerned, eXeem can go and fornicate itself with an iron stick.

Cydoor Spyware, Ads, Toolbar
If you are really interested in downloading it, you can download it from FileForum as the main site is down.
But please beware. It does constain spyware!

Re:Spyware
Yup, says here that they use Cydoor, and a quick google pretty much confirms that it's spyware, or that company uses spyware at least, and hence shouldn't be trusted.

Download Link
Download link did not appear on the linked download.htm page for me, but is apparantly here: http://download.exeem.com/eXeem0.20.exe

Re:Woohoo
From the FAQ:
14. Is eXeem(TM) open source?
No, eXeem(TM) is not open source.
