Re:Rational
Just a few examples (source http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/evidence99/marijuana/Health_1.html):
That's an old link, from 25 Aug 2003 at 06:31:44. However let's see what it says:
"EFFECTS OF HABITUAL MARIJUANA USE ON THE IMMUNE SYSTEM"
"4. Marijuana suppresses the immune system" dated 11 January 2009
"Like the studies claiming to show damage to the reproductive system, this myth is based on studies where animals were given extremely high-in many cases, near-lethal-doses of cannabinoids. These results have never been duplicated in human beings. Interestingly, two studies done in 1978 and one done in 1988 showed that hashish and marijuana may have actually stimulated the immune system in the people studied.""MENTAL HEALTH, BRAIN FUNCTION, AND MEMORY"
"Heavy Marijuana Use Doesn't Damage Brain" from 1 July 2003 (also old)
"Analysis of Studies Finds Little Effect From Long-Term Use""RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES"
Now this is where the trouble is, from 26 April 2005 at 15:01:33:
"Q. How Does It Affect Your Health?"
"A. No drug is always safe for everybody, but after 150 years of scientific study, the only proven health problem from cannabis is that its smoke can be linked to bronchitis."However there's also this, from 16 March 2008 at 18:57:35:
"Summary of Cannabis and HIV/AIDS"
"The effectiveness of cannabis for treating symptoms related to HIV/AIDS is widely recognized."Falcon

You included the cons from a Pros and Cons page but did not include the pros. However I'll address some of those cons.
"Smoked marijuana damages the brain, heart, lungs, and immune system."
"Heavy Marijuana Use Doesn't Damage Brain"
"Does marijuana damage the heart?"
"Marijuana is More Damaging to the Lungs Than Tobacco"
"4. Marijuana suppresses the immune system""3-4 Cannabis cigarettes a day are associated with the same evidence of acute and chronic bronchitis and the same degree of damage to the bronchial mucosa as 20 or more tobacco cigarettes a day."
"No drug is always safe for everybody, but after 150 years of scientific study, the only proven health problem from cannabis is that its smoke can be linked to bronchitis"""The most compelling concerns regarding marijuana smoking in HIV/AIDS patients are the possible effects of marijuana on immunity."
Actually cannabis has been shown to be helpful:
"The effectiveness of cannabis for treating symptoms related to HIV/AIDS is widely recognized."Falcon

Re:DARE
D.A.R.E. wastes money and is ineffective. If history repeates, this comic campaign and those like it, will waste money and increase so-called "piracy". Bring it on.

Re:Way off base, dude. Think of herd immunity.
"Did you think it was a mistake for the government to FORCE people to be vaccinated against polio? Against smallpox? Against measles? Mumps? Rubella? Meningococcal disease (for college students)? Diphtheria? Plenty of these other vaccines make money for pharmaceutical companies; why aren't you complaining that we're FORCEd to take them?"
Simple: because anything that raises the issue of teen sex (is it a spookier idea in bold?) sets off all sorts of red flags for these people.
This thinking that having HPV immunity will encourage girls to have sex is the same kind of stunted reasoning that demands marijuana criminialization to "send a message" to kids. Of course, if the intended message is "We parents are so mentally deficient that we seriously believe your private decisions are affected by generally unenforceable laws," well, mission accomplished. -
Re:It's slogan-ready and everything!
Yah, and it will work the same way as DARE did. Soon as I went to my DARE class and got shown the big poster with all the pretty colored pills on them, I wanted to try each one to see what it would do. As a bonus to the DARE class, it broke the ice on the whole discussion on drugs. By watching the reactions of my other classmates, I was able to determine which ones were 'cool' about drugs. Only took a few days after that to talk to the right people and to get my hands on my first joint. And you can't say it was peer pressure, my geekism (aka quest for learning) actually made it so I was the one looking, wanting to expand my experiences.
DARE typically increases drug use a few percentage points in schools that have it versus schools that do not. See http://www.fcda.org/dare.html
It's been 20+ years since then, and I learned that it's a false demon, but a boring one in the long run. But at the age when I went to DARE, it was like "Check it out, it's like Willy Fuckin Wonka, all kinds of new mind candy you never thought existed!!". Major backfire on the idiots who thought it up. -
you mean drunk or tired, *not* stoned
[...] will dramatically increase your risk of having an accident, as surely as driving while drunk, tired or stoned.
Actually, from what I've read, although marijuana does indeed impair certain motor skills critical to driving, it does not significantly contribute to risk of having an accident (at least among those not new to marijuana use). This seems to be primarily for two reasons:- People high on marijuana generally have a good awareness of the extent of their impairment, and take measures to compensate (as opposed to alcohol use -- alcohol impairs higher-level cognitive processes, resulting in those drunk people who are often convinced they're perfectly in control).
- Marijuana apparently makes driving *seem* more dangerous than it is, for instance by making drivers feel like they are going faster than they are. So, people high on marijuana typically reduce their speed even farther than they believe they have.
Being high and drunk at the same time, however, has been shown to be much worse than the sum of the effects of the two drugs alone.

Re:The biggest problem with mary jane smokers..
Let me set the record straight. This site has links to various recent studies on this topic.
The U.S. Government does not want you to know this, but all the studies that have been done regarding the effect of marijuana on driving show that it has very little impact on driving performance.
UK: Cannabis May Make You A Safer Driver (2000)
University Of Toronto Study Shows Marijuana Not A Factor In Driving Accidents (1999) (To be fair, this one is a "study of studies")
Australia: Cannabis Crash Risk Less: Study (1998)
Believe it or not, there's even one from the United States!
