Re:China to lose even more money on high-speed rai
We're trying (I support the pro-rail group(s) )
http://felttip.com/svmetro/svm/
The problem right now is they're working on getting it started badly.
If this went through, I would have a train stop 1.5 miles away that went all the way to Philly. None of the other intermediary steps I listed above. I love trains- relaxing, can do stuff, not worrying about getting into a car accident, no parking fees, no worrying about the car getting stolen, etc.
It's just not feasible right now. Hopefully, the rail line I linked gets put through. -
Re:Hopefully studio costs going down
Hi Dominic, not trolling, but impressed that you replied. My Mac came with this program, and it's very cool. I believe it's only free if bundled with the mac, it seems to be shareware, and I like it better than Audacity.
By the way, my sister is in college and they're teaching audio recording 101 with....Audacity. Congratulations, I think that's very noteworthy. I didn't mean to put your efforts down in my post.

Importing from AAC
I just tried to import some iTunes music store files with Felt Tip Sound Studio 2.0.7 and worked fine, and amazingly fast. I imported using quicktime, and it let me save it was AIFF (regular CD quality, post AAC compression) or several others, but not directly as an MP3.

I use this program to re-encode files for Final Cut, because MP3's make a shitty popping sound when final cut imports them directly.
Irony of it is, this program was given out free by Apple for their .Mac subscribers a while back. Wonder if they know it defeats their DRM? -
Re:Protection
Import the protected AAC into a sound/movie editing app (I've used Sound Studio, somebody else said iMovie works too), export to AIFF, convert to MP3 or unprotected AAC. Should be fairly easy to AppleScript.

Re:Hardware and Software Issues?I too use a PC to do the audio editing on anything I do. Basically, it was cheap and fast. I don't like using it other than that.
On the mac end for sound editing, there are a lot of products. Sound Studio is a great little program. Spark is a professional level program that would give Soundforge a run for the money.
But, whatever works. I personally like having two computers. A Mac for doing all the creative stuff, and the PC to record the product.

Re:Complex tools better?
Is there a Sound Recorder equivalent for OSX?
While I'm not familiar with Sound Recorder, I have to recommend Felt Tip Sound Studio. It is an amazingly simple and powerful audio tool that I think would fit your needs nicely. -
Re:'Lunchbox' Computers?Yes, a G4 cube is an awesome computer for a musician. It is basically SILENT. My 400Mhz G4 cube has a nice beefy 20 gig hard drive, and works great using either Digital Performer or Felttip Sound Studio to record the output of my mixer via a USB link with an iMic.
I want to get a MOTU 828 or 896 audio interface at somepoint, but for now, the Cube and the iMic work great!
