Apple Demonstrates A Dual-G4 Power Mac
caligula writes: "Just saw this [macnn.com report]: 'Tuesday, May 17 updated 2:30 pm, top stories. During the hardware keynote of WWDC, which ended just minutes ago, Apple demonstrated a dual-processor G4 Power Mac running Mac OS X. Of note to developers is that Cocoa/Carbon applications do not need to be changed in any way to take advantage of multi-processors. Benchmark demonstrations ran roughly twice as fast on the dual-G4 system compared to the single-G4 Power Mac that was on stage. No mention was given as to when these multiprocessor G4s would ship, although it was stressed that it would not be happening any time soon but that they would definitely be out by next year's WWDC.'" JonahLee pointed out a related link on macosrumors.com, and migooch noted this slightly more informative ZDne t story. Mortals still must wait at least 'til January. -

Packet Storm Security is back
Luke writes "As you may have herd, Packet Storm Security a web site providing free-ware security programs and information, was taken down a couple of months ago because of a complaint by the maintainer of AntiOnline. It was a very important source of security information to many people and companies. Now it is in the process of being put back on line by a security firm by the name of Securify. For more information visit Genocide2600. " The corporate security company that will be putting the info back on is Kroll-O'Gara, a name that I'm sure is familar to some of you. Suffice it to say, they provide "special security" for corporations, but are promising to run Packet Storm in much the same way, this time with a staff. -
More press for Gecko.
Landley writes "Here's an introductory article from developer.com about Gecko and NGLayout. Mentions Linux and Apache in passing, tries to comprehend "Open Source" but calls it "public domain" at least once, bit of speculation about the Netscape/AOL merger and future use of the technology... Not a lot new here, but worth a quick look anyway. " Gecko still seems to be crashing on my box. Ah well, Officially I want to make Slashdot work right with it- but really I just want gtk themes *grin*. -
RedHat Releasing Binary-Only X- servers
Mark McCoy was the first to notice a press release over at Red Hat discussing new binary only servers. Basically, binary servers will be made available for chip sets that require an NDA or for chipsets that won't release specs. This seems like a kludge to a bigger problem, but it all is an excellent start to get high end hardware supported quicker.
