Re:You forgot some essentials!
Nobody in their right mind installs either of those crapware apps. Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative work great.

MOD PARENT DOWN
They post a link to a site that nails you with a bunch of crappy popups only only has a link to a massive codec pack, not Real Alternative.
Here's a better link to Real Alternative -
Re:Don't Cross The Streams
If the hcclnet.nl servers are being slashdotted at the moment, you might try some of the other sources for Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative such as:
Free-Codecs.com
and
CodecsDownload.com
These two domains are mirros of each other, and also good source of many video codecs and even some free/OSS media players.

heh....hosting it for free eh?
Translation: Preserving our monopoly by any means necessary.
But I suppose dirty tactics are fair game when you're competeting with Microsoft. . .
Still, I wouldn't let any Real software touch my computer with a ten-foot pole. It's disgusting how it takes over once you give it a foot in the door. I use the Real Alternative. -
Re:If they want to be innovative and supportive...
Real Alternative Works great for me, I have no problems viewing Real Media files on my Windows box - in fact I watched this video with it.

why hasn't anyone mentioned this?
real alternative allows you to play all realmedia files without having to install realplayer.

Try Media Player Classic
WMP 6 was awesome.
Try Media Player Classic. Completely open source, looks just like WMP6. Plays Real formats too. -
Try Media Player Classic
Like all of the above, I too got fed up with anything Real has put out lately, for obvious reasons. That and it spontaneously reboots everyone's machines here in the lab.
Did some searching, found Media Player Classic (Article)- it's an open source clone of Windows Media Player before it got all colorful, space wasting, and less functional (WMP 8-9). Plus, with a bit more Google searching, I found Real codec packs for it as well. On the rare occasion I need to play Real content, I can. -
Media Player Classic (currently at 6.4.7.8)
Ever since I discovered this little gem, my need for other players has been rare indeed. In fact, the only occasions on which I've needed any other media players is to play ASX or WMV files. I also have Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative installed for good measure. Incidentally, these downloads come packaged with the ability to install Media Player Classic, albeit not necessarily the latest and greatest version.

The Real Alternative
There is a codec called The Real Alternative that plays realmedia files without the hassle of finding their free player.
