Open source insulin?
Interesting idea...
How about open-source beer? Now there's a really great.. Oh wait! It's been done! -
What's out of scope?
Almost anything you can do or use today has an open source option. You have open source options for everything from your operating system to your chat app. You can read open source textbooks, cookbooks and encyclopedias. You can even build an open source airplane or brew your own free beer (free beer as in free speech, not free beer as in free beer).
Given all these options, what part(s) of your life would you be unwilling to open source? Your children's education? Vaccines? A pacemaker? If so, what would your test be for deciding that a closed-source option is the only choice?

Re:Let me be the first
Here you are, happy brewing!
Darn, they still don't have a recipe for hot pepper beer. Nor for chocolate, Framboise, or other fruit beers. Neither does the Open Source Beer Project. But at least my supplier Midwest Homebrewing & Winemaking Supplies has forums where brewers share recipes. And there's Google.

Re:Purist and pragmatist
The pragmatists see this as proof that they've got a beer.
But it's not free beer, now is it?
If you've done the research, you'll know that Free Beer is available only in limited markets. Outside of those you've got to brew it yourself. The pragmatist might do so if he has all the kit around, but otherwise it's probably a lot cheaper just to go buy beer. Also, brewing beer today won't help you drink today... you need beer to make beer!

Re:"Joe Biden has strong anti-piracy record"
I guess we'd better hope voting records don't mean much, as it seems Biden is a firm friend of the *AA's
Or, maybe he's just hoping people stop downloading copyrighted materials. Hell, I haven't illegally downloaded copyrighted music for years. The only stuff I do download is overseas TV shows which aren't shown in my part of the world, so I feel like I can claim the 'no damages' defense.
Going even further, I honestly can not remember the last time I pirated any software. Whilst I may not be following EULA's to the letter, at least all of the software on my computer is either free (as in beer and beer) or has been paid for.
