Re:Apple got lucky
OSX is a playtoy for those who deliberately do not want to understand the very thing they use daily, and even accept the grossly limitation of their freedoms too keep that state, done right.
Here we have the paradigmatic example, of what is holding Linux back. Individuals who voice opinions like the above.
OSX is vastly technically superior to Linux. This in no way can be honestly denied. I understand that you might be bitter and butthurt about that, but your bitterness isn't going to change anything. That's the first point.
The second point is that the Free Software Foundation is a cult, in a lot of the same ways that the Church of Scientology is, (except for perhaps the economic factor) and for just about anyone who hasn't been subjected to/accepted Stallman's mind control, his crap about (his own misuse/loading of the word) freedom has roughly the same amount of correspondence with reality, as Scientology's stuff about thetans and Xenu.
I've always found it incredibly ironic that Linux users are as strongly opposed to Scientology as they are, when you have apparently never realised that you have your own version of Hubbard in your midst, and many of you worship him every bit as fanatically as any Scientologist has ever worshipped LRH.
Do not bring up the FSF's perspective as though it is something that matters. It doesn't, and the only reason why you think it does, is your own indoctrination. If Stallman deserves any credit for the proliferation of FOSS, it is only in the sense that as a cult leader, he has been able to spawn an army of zealots (otherwise known as the Debian project, and to a lesser extent these days, Ubuntu's base) who attempt to ram Linux down the throat of anyone who will give them a hearing.
This is the address of a web site, which has some relevant people, who you can contact to get help. I sincerely hope that you choose to do so. Mind control in any form, is a form of slavery. Real freedom means the ability to make your own decisions.

Re:Whats the difference?
No, a man called Steve Hassan wrote some good guidelines for the destructive behavior of cults, at http://www.freedomofmind.com/resourcecenter/faq/. One key is the control over thoughts on members, insisting that they not only behave but that they think in certain ways. Scientology has this one down pat with their lie-detectors and 'auditing'. Another key factor is the pyramid scheme: Each level reports only to the upper levels, all data is centralized in thehands of a few, and any attempt to question leaders or shift dogma is met with harsh controls and even destruction of the questioning person.
Take a look at factnet.org for some history of this cult, and take a look at Susan Meister's case and her book, 'Scandal of Scientology', or hte old Time magazine article. They claim they shut down the internal security group that harassed Susan, but they seem to have simply transferred the leading personnel to other groups, and some of them are still active. This includes Kendrick Moxon, the attorney who successfully destroyed Cult Awareness Network. -
The Wacom Cult
whats the difference between this and a wacom tablet
Well, this probably isn't owned by a crazy, quasi-religious cult leader* for starters.
*Specifically, Sun Myung Moon. -
Wacom is a Moonie Front Company
Old news for a lot of people but just FYI: Wacom is part of the Church of Reunification aka the Moonies. You can read up about them and even the MoonMan himself gloats about it. The problem appears that they own the technology for batteryless/wireless digitizing tablets so other than calcomp there is no alternative. Too bad.

Wacom == Moonies
You do know that the Moonies, or rather more specifically, Sun Myung Moon, owns Wacom, right?
I know, I know. It's still a bad-ass product. -

Re:Dishonest
I wouldn't take anything the Washington Times says without a a few shakers of salt. The thing that first caught my eye was their obvious right-wing bias; but what really took the cake for me is that the paper is owned by the Reverend Sun Myung Moon.

Re:Where's the government action? What are the "classic signs" of a cult?
The acronym to remember is BITE and it's all about control.
- Behaviour control - what the cult member can and can't do.
- Information control - what information the cult members are exposed to.
- Thought control - how to think and attitudes towards the "outside world"
- Emotional control - cults manipulate emotions to a remarkable degree in order to control their followers.
I suggest having a look at Freedom of Mind and their resources. - Behaviour control - what the cult member can and can't do.

Re:Signs? Now they're attacking personal time...
Amway hates people that do that.
Amway also hate people who expose them for what they try and get away with.
Amway is not a scam, and the right people can make a really good living.
Amway is much more than a scam - it borders on being a religious cult. Same methods, indoctrination, literature, motivational techniques - everything.
Amways products are more expensive, but they are all top quality.
Spoken like a true Amserf. They are more expensive and they suck according to independent tests.
Amway also contribute a lot of money to local orginizations, and foundations.
Which makes it all OK I suppose... -
Re:+ fallout from a Travolta BE booksigning
Here's an account of the event (supposedly with some Real Audio video of Steve Hassan handing the book back to Travolta).
