Re:google?

Do you remember...?I remember a time when Mozilla got little mercy. Over the five long years of its development there have been thousands of posts talking about how much it sucks, how buggy, how slow, how bloated, how long it took. I remember the general attitude of comments in stories of the early Mozilla releases being very negative. Not very nice for an "open source" project. Do you remember jwz's resignation and his disappointment with mozilla.org and the reaction that producted?
"Slashdot" was brutal enough (and even pro-microsoft!). Here's a small list of some postively moderated comments to jog your memory:An Overview Of PNG; Mozilla M17: M25
Mozilla Milestone 14 Awaits: This better not be M14
Mozilla To Be Dual Licensed - MPL/GPL: IE?
Mozilla M8 Released: Improvement over Netscape, but barely
Mozilla M8 Released: Top 10 things I love about Mozilla.
21 Linux Web Browsers? MS IE for Linux - I'd use it, wouldn't you?
The editors of slashdot were hardly generous in their criticism either:Netscape 6 Fails To Support Web Standards
So what does it mean? The perception of mozilla among a good number of users on /. has swung in the other direction. Who cares if there are a bunch of 'M$ is teh sux' posts. Does it mean something different from all the 'Mozilla is teh sux' posts from four years ago?
In my opinion, I think Mozilla IS better than IE. Yes, I snicker when I see silly little exploits or bugs in Microsoft products. I work with this stuff all day. I know how many millions of dollars my company spends on Microsoft, and I know that in many cases I can get an open source product that does the job well enough, or sometimes better than the equivalent Microsoft product. I subscribe to ntbugtraq and I see 2-3 vulnerabilities a week for Microsoft products. It makes me wonder why this expensive software has so many problems, and makes me appreciate the effort that goes into free software, even when they get the same kinds of bugs.
Mozilla has come a long way, and, I think, surpassed IE. I hope jwz is proud of what Mozilla has become, even with its problems.

Reruns...
I don't know where Mr. GeekLife.com has been hiding, but Ford cancelling the "Model E" program is such old news that
/. covered it over two months ago!
I'm starting to think that maybe VA <buzzword> sold /. to TVLand... -
It takes time.
This Slashdot story probably got you a good start. Hell people mentioned your site on mine after this article appeared. LOL.
I run a site that is somewhat obscure, certainly by Slashdot standards, but it does have a small community. It's also a political news forum. There are definatly some lessons along the way.
First off it takes time. I have been experiencing slow but steady growth in traffic from the beginning. It may be hard to swallow but at this point in the news forum game, barring big budgets like Plastic, I suspect slow and steady wins the race.
Secondly some people will attract much more traffic then others. The excellent staff at Geeklife have definatly pushed a lot of traffic my way. If your reading this, thanks again guys you rock. Finding sites you share common cause with and linking to each other helps.
After a quick look I would say you need more stories. The updates seem a bit sparse. Then again, what do I know.
BTW I would happily accept constructive criticism or anyone who just pops by for a visit. ; -
Better quality Mystery
Here's a much better quality version of the Myster trailer (Quicktime).

Hmm...Yep. And That's Funny Because...Yeah, not ostensibly. Presumably. As in, I'm presuming that he's saying the vents are more vulnerable to spills by being on top (since the only thing he says about the vents is that they're too large). Not as pretentious as throwing a random "per se" in there, as I actually did mean *something* by using that word. It was the wrong word, however.
And it's more humorous since, just today, just 6 hours ago or so, my Web site had an article going off on people who use "parameter" when they mean "perimeter".

Re:Are you kidding me?
Glad to hear I'm not the only one wasting away my hours on the Web. Sure I work 50 hour weeks, but 10+ of that is spent on here, over on my site, or on any of the other half dozen sites I keep current with daily.
I was beginning to think I was the laziest tech worker in the world.
(Hmm, do any of my bosses read slashdot? I guess we'll find out)

Ok, But Not If It May Fry An Owl Or Two.
Oh yep, it is hip for the guy to put a LAN and a LAN in one WAN, but I am a bit sad to see no one cry for the dog or cat or pig who die. I bet he did not try to see if it may get hot on the way. Too bad for the old man who is on the top of his hut and may get a bit too tan.
[If you can not say it in 1 or 2 or 3, why say it at all?]
