No, it does not give away most fot he plot. If anything, the "Mystery" trailer released last week gives away more of the plot. This one, from a plot perspective, focuses on the romance, which we all know is happenning anyway.
I have been very carefull not to read spoilers online. I have watched all the trailers and I can safely say that I don't feel spoiled.

Hey, I'll give you the plot of the whole film.
Mainly Geogre Lucas will be making much money by recycling an old and braindead SCI-FI movie be creating new films on the topic which contain no decent storyline but much special effects and computer animated pictures. Because the ending of the last movie of the old ones had left no sensible possibility to create any sequels, Mr. Lucas will have the innovative and cunning idea of creating prequels.
And now the most important thing of the plot: many coloured things will expode (especially in vacuum with a loud "kaboom !). And some guys will jump around.

It seems that in the trailer, it's blue, but if you look at the promo poster, he's holding a red one. So far, only the bad guys have had red lightsabers.

The first part of the trailer makes me want to hurl. The second part's a little more interesting. Lucas has gone to the dark side. He seems to want to make the movies as cheezy as possible. Maybe he's getting back at us for hating Jar Jar so much. Or maybe he he's been so long without a honey it's beginning to show.

This may not fit in with the cynical view most Slashdot posts have, but I think Episode 2 is looking good, especially in the trailer above (the new trailer was mediocre)
It looks like Episode 2 will have a lot of conflict in it, and conflict is what makes stories interesting. Anakin's conflict with the Jedi Knights, the conflict him and the Princess must feel over whether they should follow their love, and of course lots of good old fashioned battle conflict.
Also, who can resist a good old fashioned love story? The love elements in episodes 4-6 was always weak, this looks like it's really solid.

That's the only way to explain how horrible it is. "Someday I will be the most powerful Jedi ever." Did someone get *paid* to write that line? I sure hope not. And oh, big shocker, he blames Obi Wan.
Granted, I've only seen a few seconds of his performance, but the "human" (highly suspect) that's playing Anakin looks like he's doing a high school play. They're called actor's, George. Look into hiring them.
For those whining about the love plot in the movie, go watch the originals again. They always had that.
This also shows you why Anakin ends up going to the dark side and how the conflict starts. This isn't just some tacked on plot.

Cool, I just watched the trailer in a window in windows in a window in vmware. Frame. By. Slow. Frame. At 1 frame per second. Who said this was short? Heck, it took the queen 20 seconds to say one word. Now that's cool. Anyhow, did anyone spot any balance issues on the part of the cast. (Like the one on epI where Darth Mal nearly falls on his own into the reactor core after they get through the laser walls.)

If you want to save the trailer so you can watch it later do the following.
Right click on the 'Click here to play' screen in your browser window and select the save as movie item from the list. Then open the movie on your computer and click on the 'Click here to play' screen. After the movie has downloaded go to Edit and click on Extract Tracks. Select all tracks in the window and click Extract. A new window will appear, in this window go to File and select save. In the Save As window name your movie appropriately and click save.
You have just saved the Star Wars trailer to your local computer.

To me, the Clone Wars is the ultimate climax of the Star Wars Universe. Luke defeating Vader pales in comparison.

All the griping I've read about how "horrible" Episode I was, and Episode II will be, makes me think that people who think that aren't looking at the movies with the right attitude.
"Great cinema" they are not. But these movies aren't intended to be Schindler's List or Saving Private Ryan. If you want that kind of movie, go see it. This isn't it, and it isn't intended to be it.
I saw Episode I several times in the theater, and I now own the DVD, and I've enjoyed the use of the money I spent.
I went to see Episode I looking for several things:
- Cool special effects
- A decently entertaining script
- A great light sabre battle at the end
- The first part of a story whose ending I already know
I got every one of those things, and I was very pleased.
I didn't expect Oscar-quality acting, spine-tingling plot lines, statements on the human condition, or exploration of some societal quandry. I didn't get them. Star Wars isn't that kind of movie; it isn't intended as that kind of movie.
Star Wars is a series of movies where you don't have to think real hard about them. Sometimes I want a movie that will challenge me (Schindler's List, Philadelphia). Sometimes it can be fun to just turn your brain off and watch something mindlessly amusing (Something About Mary, Rollerball (the original), A Knight's Tale, Logan's Run). Star Wars is in this second category.
Whether or not you enjoy Star Wars Episode II for what it is, I think, depends a lot on what you expect.

Was I the only one here who thought that the trailer boded well for Episode II? Grow up, people, and consider that what you saw made some sense. If Anakin is truly in love with Amidala and Obi-Wan nails him with Jedi rhetoric it is entirely understandable that he'd be pissed. We KNOW that the Skywalkers are an unstable family anyway...
As for the complaints about acting, I think we all forget the wonderfully talented Oscar-level performance of Mark Hamill has whiny-boy, er, Luke Skywalker. Saying that "you've grown" seems entirely appropriate for the situation. Similarly, "I'll be the greatest Jedi ever" is exactly the sort of thing an angry unstable twenty-something whose mad at the galaxy would say in a moment of duress.
Finally, the action scenes are looking reasonably decent. Anyone else notice Boba Fett? Christopher Lee? If Lee does his usual good turn it should be a lot fun. Finally, NO Jar-Jar anywhere in the trailer. This is a Good Thing. More than anything, I think it suggests that Lucas listened to the public outcry about said abomination.

Well, if the trailer is any indication of Anakin's behavior throughout the movie, then its fairly clear that whining must be a genetic trait in the Skywalker family.

This is probably against ./ party line, but Natalie Portman is a horribly wooden actress. Plus the stilted dialogue doesn't help. I'll watch it anyways though.
The #$%#@ quicktime installer just blew chunks on my somewhat clean Windows2k development system. If they hope to survive against Microsoft (and they won't), they have to do a much better job with their player.

We finally get to see the new Sith Lord, and if you notice his lightsabre has a curved handle.
The last shot is Anakain taking the head off of what looks like Tusken Raider.
Anakin and Padme are in the same room as Luke, C3PO and R2D2 were in Episode 4.
Anakin is riding a swoop bike on the old pod race track where he won the Boonta Eve race.
Jar Jar is in what looks like Senatorial robes in the second scene.

While it is yet to be determined whether LOTD will be good or not, at least the trailers for the film don't utterly convince me of how much it sucks before I've had the opportunity to pluck down my hard earned cash to see it.
This movie looks to be beyond terrible, and even for the kiddies its aimed at. How many 7-12 year olds give a hoot about romance? And the aforementioned terrible dialog is just ponderous.
Here's hoping that LOTD brings a trilogy worth seeing, as opposed to this huge hulking steaming pile of tripe which is nothing more than an excuse to sell video games and toys and Happy meals.

This and the other trailer blew me away, especially when I found out that the live action scenes are entirely recorded with a special 24 frame/second progressive high definition video format, with a $102,360 Camcorder. This is the future of the cinema, indeed.
After watching the trailer a second time, I realized that they never show you the emperor, but they do show Anakin laying on the ground (or on a hill?) holding a lightsaber and his body crackling with blue lightning. I think we all know who commands the blue lightning and no it is not that damn green faced Prince Xixor!!!

If they wanted to get around paying for bandwidth, they'd release it on Morpheus and not worry about it. I think it's Apple's futile attempt to make money on a VIEWER. Tons of ppl got QT3 when Ep1 trailers came out, I think Apple's trying to get some money from it this time. Talk about slimey. I think MS has the right strategy with Media Player, at least in the shadow of making you pay $30 for the privelage of watching promotional videos.

Don't listen to Justin. I just watched it and it's been pretty ruined. We now know Ani gets full blown Jedi rage for not being able to fall in love with Princess Ami, gets pissed at Obi, then goes off into dark side land. Great.
That's because only a professional trailer watcher needs to see it in high-res. Amateur trailer-watchers can get by with "Quicktime Am" just fine.
sometimes they are made of takes not included in the final movie, and also if they are the final ones they are taken out of context. Refer to the trailers for the first one, anikins mother in praticular. It sounds like she is a bad actor but in the final product it comes off as one of the best proformances.
By the way, the Crossover plugin rocks. My only wish is that it supported Opera as well, but it worked flawlessly in Mozilla.

Obviously, whatever reasons Lucas might have for using JarJar would still be applicable at this point of the story -- because he's consistently been creating these stories with the big picture in mind -- and if JarJar were to be taken out it'd basically be because he as compromising artistic integrity for the fans.
Arguably, in a creative sense he was already on this route (would you describe the alien species in TPM as more creative or derivative?), but if he'd been this sort of waffler in his development on the original trilogy, the product probably would have been lukewarm and we wouldn't enjoy it as much.
Just a thought.

I remember seeing it as a kid, thinking, "What the heck is this Episode 4 business?"
On an aside, Ep.4 was SO different, even from 5 and 6 in terms of pacing and direction -- there were actually SLOW moments! Probably because it was the only one Lucas actually directed. Just watch the original (not special edition) and you'll see what I mean.

Before I saw Hayden Christensen (Anakin) act, I could easily say I wasn't afraid of Episode II. All the naysayers said I would be once I saw more footage from it. Now, after seeing him give his little temper tantrum in that trailer, I'm afraid my fear is going to lead to suffering in the theater.
That medium version is so small that Ewan McGregor was looking like Kiefer Sutherland (when he played the Young Guns series)...

to get this damn quicktime plugin installed, and for mozilla to recognize it?
.so files from the various source directories and manually copied them to mozilla's plugin folder (this is how I usually have to install plugins for the browser.) But alas, mozilla doesn't recognize them. Quicktime doesn't work, and the documentation seems quite useless. Guess I need to just write off the quicktime format until apple supports it...

Anakin: Happy kid.
Amidala: Her republic is under seige.
Darth Sidous: Evil is fun.
Darth Maul: Tired of hiding.
Jar-Jar: Rejected from home because of clumsiness.
Take the climax of Star Wars (the original): Luke has gone on the suicide mission because he has nothing to lose. He turns off his targeting computer because he has had a leap of faith in the force. This isn't enough, though, and Darth Vader is set to kill him, but is thwarted because Han Solo has had a leap of faith of his own and has come to help the fight. The only reason the mission is a success is because of the personal growth of the characters, and this makes for a great climax.
But what about the climax for TPM? Anakin accidentally kills the main driod control ship, and Jar-Jar accidentally fights on the ground. Do any characters grow, or realize anything from the fight? Qui-gon dies, but how does this affect Obi-wan? I felt nothing for the characters because I didn't understand them. They won their battles out of pure luck AKA the force.
If they explain the characters and their passions everything else will fall into place!

I downloaded all 27.9MB of the large trailer, but Quicktime Player just launched Internet Explorer and sent me back to the trailers site.
Seriously, we've ALL seen Episode 4,5, and 6. We know that Anakin is going to hook up with the queen, we know he's going to get pissed at ObiWan, we know they're going to have kids (one of which Anakin doesn't know about), we know ObiWan and Anakin are going to fight in the clone wars, and we know Anakin is going to get jacked in the clone wars.

Star Wars Episode 2 release to theaters in US is May 16, 2002; 20th century is aiming to get as near as possibly simulatenous release in the UK.
If Fox manages to pull off a simultaneous theatrical release in major markets and then a simultaneous DVD release in major markets, Fox won't be able to hide behind the "staggered release schedule" argument for region lockout. Once AOTC hits second-run theaters, why don't we all go ask Fox to make the DVD region-free?

He just didn't have any spoken lines.
I noticed they're using CG R2D2 more now. Not complainin tho, he seemed a bit flakey in the first one.
