Ford transit vans shut themselves off
They call it stop/start. Cheaper than a hybrid. They beef up the battery and starter motor to cope with the stop/start. It increases the mpg by about 20%. It doesn't wait 30 seconds though it switches off when you put it in neutral while stopped.

they are already busy with interactive textilesPhilips is already busy with interactive shirts as you can read http://www.gizmag.co.uk/go/4527/ here. And that's already a year ago:
Photonic textiles can also be made interactive. Philips has achieved interactivity by incorporating sensors (such as orientation and pressure sensors) and communication devices (such as Bluetooth, GSM) into the fabric.

Wall-sized TVThe wall-sized TV that doesn't require a darkened room has been a fantasy since the 1950s. We finally do have flat-screen TV sets you can hang on the wall (though this still requires rather big bolts). And there is the Panasonic 103 inch flat panel. But we're not there yet.
(Larry Ellison actually did have a wall-sized sunlight-visible TV in his old house. It used a projector intended for much larger screens.)

Why should it affect Branson ?
Richard Branson and his Virgin brand are English, why should he listen to US rules when they are only binding in USA ?, and since the US is now so broke that it has to depend on the Russians for the ISS how relevent are these rules when the future of space travel is probably with the Chinese or Russians or even Australia. -
Re:Patent Infringement Potential?
http://www.gizmag.co.uk/go/4538/ describes a US Army proposal for something similar.
"the Walrus aircraft will be a heavier-than-air vehicle and will generate lift through a combination of aerodynamics, thrust vectoring and gas buoyancy generation and management" but "does not require an airstrip and can land on water or on open ground". -
Who cares about meat???
I want the Lie detector glasses!
Some of the text of the article (as we have managed to make the site go KAAABOOOM!)
A new lie detection technology promises remarkable benefits in determining whether people are telling you the truth IN REAL TIME. The technology is already being tested in a wide variety of applications such as anti-terrorism, law enforcement, and insurance claim assessment and has even been built into a pair of glasses with internal LED lights which will run a real-time analysis of conversations of the wearer, reporting on the veracity of the person the wearer is speaking to with a claimed accuracy of better than 95%. -
Re:Good Idea, Bad Price - the paper keyboard
If a prototype e-paper watch and clock can be manufactured, then a paper keyboard shouldn't be that difficult.
If nothing else, it would be extremely useful to have a multi-language keyboard. Instead of manufacturing different sets of keyboard keys for each country, computer makers would only need to manufacture a single keyboard.
