Canadian High Court Says ISPs Don't Owe Royalties
canwaf writes "According to the CBC, and the other guys: In a 9-0 decision, Canada's highest court ruled, despite the fact that ISPs provide the means for piracy, they are not liable for what people download. They continue in their decision that Internet access providers are not bound by federal copyright legislation. Coupled with an earlier story on Slashdot, this is a very good thing." Edward Scissorhands was one of many readers to link to the Globe and Mail's article, too. -

He responded to me today to say that "Despite strong opposition by the Canadian Alliance to these and other aspects of the bill, the Minister of Canadian Heritage won the day and Bill C-32 Copyright Legislation is now law." And further to say "The law assumes guilt that everyone who buys a blank tape or CD is pirating music - but anyone who uses CDs for data storage, for instance, knows that's not true!" Distressing that the bill has passed, but refreshing that my MP 'gets it'!" -

William Gibson had spent many of his 92 years sealing his prized collection in plastic, leaving behind a true motherlode of science fiction writings." -

Stephen Legge writes "Here's an article from the Toronto Globe&Mail about studios shuffling their spring line-up in anticipation of a chaotic Phantom Menance opening." Also worth noting, they've moved the release date from the 21st to the 19th. It still overlaps Linux Expo. Are we gonna rent a theater out or what? -
Globe covers Possible Pentium III Flop
DrPsycho writes "Canada's national newspaper The Globe and Mail has in its Report on Business section today an article on everyone's favorite overhyped chip, the PIII. Talks plainly about the competition Intel faces from AMD and Cyrix, as well as the problems they're having with PR and a general lack of consumer confidence. " Maybe its just me, but wasn't the 486, Pentium, PPro and P2 each predicted to be a flop? The P3 is definitely looking grim though. No major performance game. Many times more expensive. Hmm -
