RIAA guy (from an old slashdot comment)
riaa guy
borrowed from an old slashdot posting. was so good I kept a copy around. (isn't that appropriate?)
enjoy. its pretty funny (no, I didn't write it). -
anyone know where to get this famous 'spock' ?
this is an actual line (chain?) printer printout from the early 80's. you can see its yellowing and I'd like to reprint it on a modern printer.
but I don't have the source. it was on an old DECsystem-10 or -20 many years ago:
spock ascii poster
any pointers to this multi over-print goodie? -
link to my config file (semi-rare hardware config)for those few people who want to use dual SGI 1600sw flatpanel displays in xinerama mode, I have a config file that works. it wasn't hard but other than the developer and perhaps 5 other people in the world (just a WAG), very little info is out there that confirms this actually work.
it does work. I have a dualhead xinerama setup at work and also the same exact setup at home.
I'm providing this info so that people know this config works. I asked many people at sgi if this would work (even posted to the usenet groups for sgi) and no one knew (surprising, eh?)

the neo series is sdmi-free
the neo25 is a regular old usb-drive with mp3 decode hardware and an lcd display on it.
you can copy TO and FROM it with zero issues. and recently, you can even use it with linux now that there's an update to the firmware (works with 2.4.latest kernel just fine!)
the computer-geeks (store) has them for sale for $122. I paid close to $300 just a year ago. the only downside of this unit is that its bad on batteries (li-ion only lasts 2 hrs or so). and don't use 5400rpm 2.5" notebook drives with this unit; there's not enough power to spin the drive up! stick with the slower 4200rpm notebook drives (30gig works well).

Re:go with qmail
By the way, I forgot to mention:
You don't appear to like spam. But you deserve it, bryan@grateful.net for being such a faggot Qmail zealot.
FUCK YOU TOO!

Re:Reliabilityyeah, well dsl is not party either.
see this link:
if you think dsl (via pachell) is that much better.
hint: use the radio buttons and zoom in and out a bit. look at a day or a few days or even a week or more. look at all the red and blue marks, meaning that my 'modem' hung (due to alcatel poisoned packets from the dslam) and had to be rebooted to re-establish connectivity
;-(

I have a ping/status webpage for my pachell dslits:
I have an alcatel 1000 'modem' which hangs quite a lot. I have to enable a ping/keepalive loop using an x10 wireless remote power controller just to keep my dsl line up and running
;-(see the top graph where all the redmarks are (and some blue). note that I changed my polling frequency and I broke the top graph a few days ago so there will be no red there (even though my modem does reboot several times a day). but look in the past, about 2 weeks back, and you'll see how unstable pachell's dsl is.
