ObSnarks...
I assume they'll check with telescopes so that contestants don't just pull a _Capricorn One_?
And will they blow it up?
Meh, time go go for a ride on an unusually nice day.. -
Re:This is very good newsClinton was a poor kid from the South whose real dad died, and whose step-dad was a mean, drunk SOB who beat his mom up all the time. Life gave him no handouts, and he had to earn everything he ever had. From this background, he became an Oxford scholar. He went to law school and was voted governor of Arkansas. On the national TV circuit, his obvious intelligence and warmth made him the closest thing a President got to being a rock star since Kennedy.
...aaaand then he made a mockery of the office, slept around on his wife, made an international joke of the word "cigar," and completely ignored the growing threat of terrorism leading up to 9/11.
And that's not even getting into the stuff he's suspected of doing.
Keep in mind I voted for him twice, because for a little while I was willing to overlook his obvious lack of morals because he was "doing a good job." 'course, I was young and stupid (as proven mathematically by Church's Law of 'Yer a God-damned Idiot') and did things I now regret.
Now, do us all a favor, stop drinkin' the Kool-aid, try actually looking at the issues instead of swallowing the party-line whole, and DON'T talk about issues you haven't got the faintest clue about, or you're just acting like the Lefty-mirror of all the Right-wing morons that embarras the hell out of our nation.
Also, do try actually LIVING IN A DICTATORIAL MONARCHY before you call Pres. Bush "King George" again. You might figure out that you haven't got a god-damned clue what you're talking about. (see preceding paragraph for what not to do about things you haven't got a god-damned clue about) -

Audible magic is now live on Grouper.com
The Audible Magic tagging is live on Grouper.com a tiny version of YouTube, as is everyone else in the field. Uploads are being stopped in their tracks, so to speak. Grouper forums discussion and reaction --> http://forums.grouper.com/showthread.php?t=3699 It's the beginning of the no-fun period of online video.

Grouper Already Started

Re:Looks like the rider beat the horse
Sad? It'll take about a month for all the users to migrate to one of the dozens of alternative sites that act in the same way and have slightly different features.
Those that want DRM and community support will hit grouper. Those that want porn will hit pornotube. The people who just want to use their webcams and view amateur clips will use vobbo. The ones that want to open license their content will use ourmedia, and the ones that want revenue sharing will use revver.
Dozens of alternatives, just look at The list. -
SBC cannot charge moreI'm pretty sure that if SBC charges web sites more for increased bandwidth then they'll be facing anti-trust suits.
My company (Grouper) is an online video sharing service. If SBC starts charging us more for access to their customers, then won't they be abusing their monopoly position in that market the to the benifit of Yahoo's video service?

Re:This is great!
Grouper has these features I also believe that the chat is encrypted don't know about the file transfers they are planning to have a pay-for version however.

Re:This is great!
Already done, check http://www.grouper.com/
The thing they have to implement to make it more usefull is multi-source downloading.
That way people with lots of online friends have an advantage :-) -
Try these out . . .
in this order .
.
http://nonags.com/
http://www.pricelessware.org/thelist/index.htm
http://www.doom9.org/ (click on the download button on the left)
http://theopencd.sunsite.dk/
http://www.komando.com/shareware_index.asp

Do I need to mention sourceforge and freshmeat?
Not sure if http://skype.com/ is listed in the above lists - it is surely worth mentioning but sometimes requires a USB headset purchase to tweak it, which is well worth the expense since this software often rivals Vonage service in quality when calling pots lines (non-free) and blows away anything when calling pc to pc (free).
http://grouper.com/
http://www.ultravnc.com/ is almost always my preference over tightvnc.
Realplayer is not that bad if it is tweaked - you have to look for the setting that disables automatic ownership of filetypes.
http://kerio.com/ is my firewall preference over ZoneAlarm and Sygate, although the windows xp built-in is is usable. Kerio keeps an eye on changing files via an md5 hash.
http://grisoft.com/, in most cases, would be my recommendation for AV software.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/ is great if you have the connection for it.
And if you want more free software then download emule.
um uh . . erase that last line -
Grouper Rocks!
Did any of you guys actually look at Grouper before commenting? FAQ here. I've been using Grouper for 2 weeks now, sharing photos with my family overseas and listening to friends music with no problems for hours and hours. I've tried to use some other private p2p file sharing apps - some are mentioned here - but was never able to get any of them to work with my friends. I'm not a super techie wizard as most of you here but my friends are even less technical than myself. Also, PC Magazine just gave Grouper its editors choice award. Read this for an actual report of someone using it.

Re:New name, same product?
Yes, it's a blatant rip-off of Justin Frankel's WASTE.
http://waste.sf.net/
Moreover, the Grouper CEO has the temerity claim to its his original idea:
"The idea for Grouper was born out of personal frustration after Josh came back from Burning Man with loads of photos and video clips taken with his digital camera." http://www.grouper.com/about/presskit.htm
This doesn't much surpise me as I have experience working with these Grouper people. I'd never work with them again. -
Re:Strange, I was just looking into this today
Their About page lists the developers. Three are ex-spinner.com/AOL and one is ex-Microsoft. They are currently in Beta development, so it is being offered free.

Strange, I was just looking into this today
and ran across Grouper. Only for Windows, but it does almost exactly what these folks want.
